When will plusnet pull there fingers out...

Since my maxdsl upgrade my broadband service has went to bad to bloody awful and plusnet don't seem to be doing anything about it.

At the moment my modem is syncing at 1.3mb, since my upgrade i have never synced at a higher rate than this and considering i was on 2mb connection before this is very frustrating.

I raised this fault with plusnet a while back (proberly a month ago) and i am yet to see any change and my service has got worse. I can now sync at anything between 200k to 1.3mb. When syncing at 1.3mb i get download speeds of someone on a 56k connection.

Plusnet have came away with nearly every poor excuse in the poor excuse book blaming it on contention to the fact i need to reboot my modem every night for 7 days. Well erm is a voyager 105 it reboots every time i turn the PC on and off ffs!

Now i am a product specialist for BT Broadbands VOIP service and deal with broadband problems everyday and i thought BT's customer service was bad until i experienced plusnet's which is a total joke. Basically i am looking for advice on what i should do next as i am lost at how much longer plusnet will muck a PAYING CUSTOMER around!

Just thought i would add this aswell. This is using the speed tester on plusnets site

Date Speed Achieved (kbps)
17-06-2006 22:12:05 - 128
11-06-2006 19:04:58 - 65.1
22-04-2006 18:42:14 - 175.6
25-02-2006 21:01:48 - 1902.8

still left in the dark with the end no where in sight....

Think its time plusnet put me back on my old 2mb connection it might be unstable but at least its useable and i dont have to wait 10mins to download a 5mb file!

Hi there,

If your router is syncing with your exhange at these speeds then this is duely out of plusnets control. However if you connect and do some BT speed tests this will give you some backing so that Plusnet then can present this to BT.

As for syncing at 1.3 everytime or lower but never any higher, it was a warning label that was attachd to MaxDSL. Itwas said that some customers could see a downgrade in speed as the equipment measured the quality of your line and gave you a sync speed based on the results.

In the meantime please do a few BT Speed tests as details here http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/27 and I willflag this up so you at least have a reply on the matter and on the progress.

i have done this and supplyed the results to plusnet last month which they then blamed on contention. I am paying for a service which is useless i will do this again but no dont plusnet will come back with yet another excuse.

Perhaps if you keep a log of speeds etc and sync's ( along with SNR etc ) then this may help also.

Dont forget the figur BT are most interested in is the off peak figure ( between midnight and 7AM ). For people who dont stay up all night this can be a pain and so you will find a link in my sig for a neat program ( created by another plusnet member ) which will start the BT tests for you ( providing you have set everything up before hand ).

I usually set it up to test once every 40 minutes throughout the entire night and so have a mass list of speeds etc ranging from midnight to 7 AM.

But as I say I can only offer suggestions and not solutions...

I am grateful for the advice but i have been through this with plusnet who have just blamed something else and done nothing about it.

Heres my first speedtest anyway

129 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

Your IP address is 217.32.97.125, your browser is reported as being Mozilla 5.0 and is running on Windows XP.

That does seem rather on the low side, and its bellow the minimum acceptable rate for a Max connection, which is 400kbps.

I've taken a quick look at your ticket, and added some further comments onto there for you.

As for running more BT speed tests, the times for these have actually changed, and off-peak is now defined as midnight - 4pm, rather than the old midnight - 7am.

That should make it a lot easier for some people then.

A positive move aswell I might add.

Does this apply to PAYG accounts also jon?

Ok i have now done 3 speed tests and they all came back around the same 126, 126,129.

But i had my old wanadoo livebox in the cupboard so i decided to hook it up to see what would happen. It is locked to wanadoo but i came back with this

Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 15.8
Attenuation (dB) : 63.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 2176
ADSL status : Synchronised [0]

Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1952 448

It synced at a higher rate than my voyager 105 has even done on maxdsl.

As its only for BT speed tests, then yes it applies to all ADSL accounts.

Mikelfcuk I sympathise with your problem. I have an open query with the CS about speeds, although mine have not been as poor as yours. Mine are dropping down around the 600/700 mark.
What is so annoying is that BT will not look at the problem unless the figure is below 400 which is plain stupid when we are dealing with a Service which should be up to 8mb. I would like +net to publish the number of customers that are actually getting speeds any where near 8mbs - would believe that there is not too many. I think they, and all the other ISPs should stop making such a great deal of this 8mb until they can actually provide such speeds to the majority of their customers.

It just annoys me that plusnet is taking so long about fixing the issue i might just consider cancelling the service complete because it is not worth the money.
