Does Plusnet block the ports for VPN access?
(The ports for IPSEC and PPTP?)

Many Thanks

VPN ports

List the ports in question and I can answer better.

Generically we block 135 and 445.

VPN ports

IKE = 500/udp
ESP = IP protocol 50
IPSEC/NAT (if needed) is usually 10000/tcp, 4500/udp

VPN blocks - don't think so

As a consultant I use VPN both going into and out of customer sites and also for some friends to connect to me.
I have not found any failures, so I would have immediately said NO.
But as the plusnet rep is asksing for the list of ports, then that leads me to believe plusnet do block some ports.
For future reference can you tell us which ports are being blocked or could be blocked?

From my experience VPN seems unblocked.
Thanks

VPN ports

Hi there,

If you have one of the older ADSL "Surf" accounts then the P2P ports are blocked.

Across our network 135 and 445 are blocked. The ports listed above are not blocked.

I have asked our systems at work and they tell me the ports required are

500 and 4500

These are both UDP and are needed in both directions (i.e. incoming and outgoing).

Can you please tell me if these ports are available or blocked on your network.

Thanks

Can you clarify exactly what an 'older ADSL "Surf" account' is?

Hi There

What is meant by that is an account called an ANDSL home surf one which is an older account type, it is not the account that you yourself has and as such you do not need to worry about this.

I do have home surf, and need occasional VPN. What is the quick / cost-effective option for transferring to a connaction account which is ok for VPN?

Hi There

You should still be able to use the VPN connection as only P2P ports are blocked if you config the VPN to use a different port then you will be OK
