Can these be changed?

If so are there any issues, such as a new contract?

I'm on 2Mb PAYG

Could you elaborate as to why you wish to chance your username, as there are some workarounds.

If you want to change your e-mail address domain, then you can register a free dial-up PAYG account, and use that for e-mail, or even register a domain name.
Personally I user www.123-reg.co.uk and they will forward e-mail onto your PlusNet account.

Unfortunately not. You would be welcome to sign up to a free account with a different username however.

I was on BB+. If I visited a site such as GRC.com then it showed my IP address as a non identifiable sting terminating in plus.net.

I recently changed to PAYG and now the same test shows

stevejeffery.plus.com

I was perhaps a little foolish in using my name as a login when I signed up, but would prefer that every site I visit cannot see who I am. Just being fussy.

It has nothing to to with E-mail, I don't use PN's service except for messages from PN.

Is it because I now have a fixed IP address?

Yes, pretty much. The name is just the reverse DNS of your IP address. As you can probably tell, mine is exactly the same, and personally, I've never considered it an issue.

Lots of people have their names in the phonebook too.

You used to be able to get it changed,I know I did, so it points to ip instead of username....is that no longer possible? Raise a ticket and ask for rdns to be changed to point to ip.

An rDNS change I believe is still possible, although I wouldn't have the foggiest how to do it myself Smiley

Raising a ticket is a good idea.

Thanks for all the info. I will have a little brood about it.

PAYG is really flying, still, AFAIK, in a fixed 2Mb but speed tests all show at least 1.96 Mb even with my 49Db attenuation.

(Alloy cables into the exchange I'm told, grrr)

Go to 'Help Assistant'
Technical Support
Domains
Advanced domain Management
Manage DNS Records

Close the pop-up page that appears
On the page you drop back to, click
Ask your question to the support team
Enter the following text:-

Could you amend the DNS records for my account so that a reverse DNS enquiry does not reveal my username please?

... and it will be done for you.

24 hrs after you get confirmation that it has been changed, go Start | Run & enter 'cmd' into the box & click 'OK'.

At the prompt. type 'nslookup xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' (i.e. your IP address) & press <return>.

It should reply xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.plus.com

[edit - spelling]

There used to be a specific option for this in Contact Us but for some reason I've never understood it has been removed.
