Usenet - Was i just lucky before ?

Relatively new customer, i'm into my second week.

BB+ account and been using usenet and getting full line speed connections.

Since yesterday i have been throttled to little over 10K

Has Plusnet choked my line or is it a problem

Normal downloads operate at full line speed still

I'm currently getting approx 60Kbps, ie one-third of my usual usenet speed from a remote news server. Before I waste time and look foolish by complaining to them, could PlusNet please confirm whether any shaping is happening on usenet at the moment - and reconfirm usenet shaping policy which only this week has been declared a shaping -free zone by bbrown.

My news provider has confirmed that they are not throttling my connection. I'm now awaiting a definitive response to my ticket asking for official confirmation that PlusNet aren't throttling me either.

I I use Newsleecher and regularly get 230Kbytes/sec, but this is during the time of 7am onwards, and don't normally download much at all during the evening - just the day, and after midnight for anything big. What times are you downloading from usenet?

I'm getting an average speed of 9.2K/Sec Sad

On BB+

Using Powergrab to read and download binaries

Doesn't matter what time of day, its always the same. I expected to be throttled as i am using the £14.99 service, but not so severely

P.S.

Using the speed checker on this site, you can see the degredation of my connection speed

A Plusnet response would be nic eon this just to set the record straight.

When i first subscribed i thought the speed and level of service was second to none, but i'm starting to become unsure

Broadband Plus is not designed for binary newsgroups, and will not perform well for this application.

If you do use binary newsgroups frequently you would be better off with a Premier account.

I'm peaking at 236kB/s on a Premier account right now, avg looks like 180-200,. Slows down to about 100kB/s peak time.

I have no problems at the exchange. 1.85Mb/s almost everyday anytime.

Using Plusnets server and Agent.

Well that was how i understood it, but the first week my BB+ connection was running at 100k/sec. Now it runs at 10

Same here overnight my connection speeded to nearly full connection speed and dropped down during 'peak' time as advertised which I was happy with. Since the recent 'network improvements'? the speed is capped to a constant 10kb day or night. By the time my download was running at this speed the rentention had run out and the download failed.

If I upgrade to a premier account will I get full speed or will it be running at 60kb as some previous posters have suggested

Just thought I would ask if anyone else is having the same shockingly poor performance as I am at the moment.

I started off getting somthing like normal service BUT

Currently from my giganews on my Premier account I am getting something like 20-30k/s at this time of day (8.30)! I understand the concept of contention but what exacltly is the point in paying extra for a premier account where during peak times I am BELOW a 512k level of service!
