Unreliable connection

The last couple of weeks I am finding that I am unable to connect to the internet and have to go into the router config (D-link DI-524) to tell it to reconnect. Are others having similar problems or is it a likely sign that my router is on its way out?

Unreliable connection

cant say ive had the same issue, there are a couple of things it could be related to.

First up, does your router have an idle disconnect time, and is it set to automatically reconnect? if not, then that could be your issue.

Secondly, if the router is trying to login, but ppp is failing because of timeout, either on F9's part, or for some other reason that would stop the connection.

Only other thing I could think of is that your router 'is' failing, you could try a factory reset and see if that solves your problem, just make sure to take a note of the settings first!

Failing all of the above, Im afraid its a new router. The netgear range seem to be good, cheap and reliable. Above this I would recomend the 3Com officeconnect range, easy to setup and rock solid.

Either way, buy online, IT247.com is a good place, they have reasonable pricing there, and fast delivery, even on the cheapest method.

Let me know how you get on!

Unreliable connection

Hi,

I have recently connected my mum to Force 9 and am using the Voyager 210 single port router. I am having a similar problem where the internet connection occasionally gets 'logged out'. The power and ADSL indicators on the router are green but the 'internet' indicator goes out. Logging into the router and clicking 'connect', or rebooting the router sorts out the problem. There is no real interval to this (happened within a couple of hours the first time I connected and then didn't happen for a week) so I don't suspect a timeout on the router.

This sounds like a similar problem to you. I was going to chase this up with F9 support this weekend. If I have any feedback I will let you know or perhaps on of those nice F9 support people might like to comment here...

Thanks in advance,

Mark F

This scenario is exactly the same as the one that I experienced in May 2007 when I connected my friend's computer to F9 via the Voyager one port ethernet router. In the end I just put the login page in Bookmarks so it was no problem to reconnect. It doesn't happen all the time, however. There seems to be no apparent cause.

Hi,

Looking at your connection logs for this username (if you're mum's using a different username then I can check that one instead) there are a few disconnections over the last 10 days all but one of which shows up as "user request" which normally means that the router disconnected the connection rather than a line drop or other fault.

May just be coincidence but more than half the disconnections seem to be around 10:30pm and 12:30am. I don't suppose that helps at all?

It's the sort of pattern that I wouldn't rule out an idle timeout on. The longer sessions could be down to background noise keeping the connection session alive, may only take a ping or two in a 30 minute period for example to be seen as active and not drop the session.

Still having problems with different router (of the same type - D-Link DSL G-604T - The model I originally posted was a mistake)
Was working fine last night then this morning, couldn't get connected and still no connection after return from work. Power cycled the router and things got back to normal, but has disconnected several times in last 20 minutes.....here's a slice of the log

Is the DSL carrier up/down stuff significant?
