UK's major Internet exchange cuts prices - plusnet 2 follow?

Quote from Macuser Mag recently:

"The UK's major Internet exchange is cutting the prices that it charges ISPs, which could lead to further reductions in broadband pricing.
The London Internet Exchange (LINX) links the networks of some 180 ISPs and other organisations to each other and is reducing the cost of connecting to the 1Gbit and 10Gbit Ethernet ports on its switches by 15 per cent."

Have Plusnet got any plans to pass on the benefit to the customer?

Having said that , my £14.99, 2mb is still very good value.

The vast majority of the money you pay goes on things like the ADSL costing to BT not external bandwidth. A 15% reduction on your external bandwidth costs would probably make it about 5p at the most.

Hi,

As Chris says the cut in costs at Linx is going to be small in comparison to other costs, the big one being the BT Central Pipe charges. Traffic across Linx is also less than the traffic that goes via some of our other transit links.

5p eh? But 5p x all clients is alot to PlusNet. They could use that to hire more staff for example.

I'd like the 5p!
Like you say tho - at 100,000 users it'd work out to be about 60k per year, should defo fund some more CS bods.

How many users does PN actually have?

How comes they don't put it on the homepage?

Surely someing like join the exsisting 100,000+ customers would be good advertising?

It's getting towards that. I think the figure will be in the Investor Relations section

would it be fair to say that this price cut is pure market progression?

Or in terms that I didn't just make up on the spot, when we get the faster 4 and 8 meg speeds, we'll be using more bandwidth, and thus the extra costs would go some way towards paying for that extra bandwidth so that the subscription price remains around and about where it is instead of having to go up by a rediculous amount to pay for the service?

If this is true, by all means, keep the 5p Smiley

I think the way the internet is moving, bandwidth is going to get cheaper and cheaper. At this point, the amount ISPs call fair will be increased.
