Testing for broadband on a line you don't own

We're thinking of moving house, however one of my main criteria (if not the wife's) is that the new place be suitable for broadband.

We saw a nice place recently, however it's a bit out of town, and BT's availability checker gives a fuzzy "you might get 256/512 if you're lucky and we send an engineer" response. (We got the phone number from the estate agent).

However, I'm reluctant to trust this too much, as we actually get a similar response for our current place ("512/1Mb"), which in fact gets the full 2Mb, no problems.

Is there any way of knowing for sure, or getting BT to find out for sure, especially considering we don't actually own the line?

Maybe someone from plusnet can comment.

Thanks

Testing for broadband on a line you don't own

We can't do a full test on a line unless it is a line we have provided i.e. it's already got Plusnet broadband on.

We can do a preliminary check on any phone number, if you call us any of the agents should be able to do it.
