Terrible speeds

For about a week now I've been getting absolutely awful speeds on pretty much everything, but namely http (general web surfing etc) speeds. It's no exaggeration to say I could get around faster on 56k. I checked in here a few days ago and noticed a thread where other people were having a similar issue, but it's gone off the radar now...so has that been fixed?

I've ran spyware/virus checks to ensure it's no fault at my end, too.

Hi there,

You're actually on a fixed 2Mbps product currently. Would you like me to move you to a Max service? This may or may not help with regards to your speeds. However, we get better diagnostics on Max services aswell so may well be able to offer further help once the order is completed.

bluejam if you have a router and can paste your line stats here it would help us see whether an upgrade to maxdsl will help you

Can you also copy and paste the results of the BT test that Chris has linked you to

It will help us to see if this is the source of the problems your having

Hi, I had to install a java applet for the BT speedtest and that took over an hour. The results are as follows-

Quote
48 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

Your IP address is 80.229.20.219, your browser is reported as being Mozilla 5.0 and is running on Windows XP.

BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service:

For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.

and my line stats (at least I think this is what you mean) are as follows-

Yes okay, move me to Max, please. Assuming it won't cost me anything.
