Sudden drop in speed?

For over a week my stable rate has been 8000kbps and my router has had sync at 8128kbps, my download speed has been between 2-6MB which i was happy with.
Now today my stable rate has dropped to 500kbps and my download speed is even less than that

14-05-2006 21:12:06 240.8
14-05-2006 21:11:34 237.5

if i was just back down to 2MB i would not complain but this speed is very bad, not what i am paying for really

does anybody have any suggestions as to what is going on?

Hmm,

Doesnt look nice at all. Could it be contention though as mine went down and back up just now when I did some speed tests.

Sudden drop in speed?

Tony -

Is it really true your Max Stable Rate is down at 500? as reported by the PlusNet page at (where was that again? anyone?)

If so, it's the speed that BT report that you can achieve a stable sync'ed connection; and that really is pants compared to what you did have.

oh it's true

Your High-speed Broadband Service

Your current broadband speed is 500 Kbps

What does this speed mean?
This is the speed that BT are telling us you should expect on your line. If your hardware is reporting higher speeds, you can try and automatically update this speed by disconnecting and reconnecting once a day for 3 days.

https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate

when it was down as 8000 i had no problems at all, download speeds between 2-6MB with no disconnections,

@ grake

Have you done a BT speed test?
If BT test shows appreciably higher speeds then it will probably be that PN are holding the line rate back - maybe due to miscommunication between BT and them as to your MSR.

Sudden drop in speed?

Hi ian,
the BT speedtest gives me 2450kbps, so it seems PN are applying the brakes for some reason,
i had this problem when i first got maxdsl but my connection has been fine for a week

I swear I've had to reboot my router once a day for about the last 5 or 6 days.

Its a flaw in maxdsl that suddenly decides to retrain your connection because of some slight malfunction in your connection, mines on its 3rd retrain already & it takes 3 days each time to jump back up
