Sudden & Dramatic Drop In Speed

Suddenly my speeds have reached rock bottom which is unusual for my connection

I'm on Premiere 2 and used less than 13GB of allowance so have not hit any restrictions yet.

My Stable rate is: 7000

Namesco struggled to give the follwoing result:
DL: 79kbps UP: 75kbps

A BT test gave the following:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 285 kbps

My Stats:
Local Line Atten: 2.0 dB
Remote Line Atten: 4.5 dB
Local SNR Margin: 14.0 dB
Remote SNR Margin: 26 dB

Couldn't find anything in PN's Service Status.

Any advice, please.

Cheers

Edit: I noticed my Sync speed has dropped from just of 7600 to 7008

Hi,

Is that the sync speed the modem's reporting now? If so there's something seriously odd going on. What happens if you reboot the modem/router?

Yes, that was the sync speed reported by the modem. I had previously done a reboot.

A refresh of the modem brought back the previous display of 7008 DL & 448 UL.

Current speed test from Speedtest.net is showing:

Latency: 501 (has been as high as 1000 over the last three hours)

DL: 302 (has been as low as 25)
UP:349

Any idea why the sudden change? I have had reasonably good speeds on average (4500-5500) since being maxed last May.

Cheers

BTW email speeds appear to be fast. Don't know of any way to test their speed, though.

Hi,
try testing your speed with this site http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

I use four different Speedtest sites, all gave similar results over the last thre hours.

Latest test results:

http://www.speedtest.net/ - 668 DL 373 UP
http://myspeed.visualware.com/ - 483 DL 273UL
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ - 1431 DL 362 UP

Re-did test with Speedtest.net:

Dusseldorff: 2357 DL 378 UL
London: 1201 DL 363 UL

So, which reading is likely to be a true likeness to my speed? It definitely feels like London - even slower than that.

Speed Down 4118.62 Kbps ( 4 Mbps )
Speed Up 369.41 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

Sudden & Dramatic Drop In Speed

If you have synced at a low speed it probably means your BT IP Profile speed has been clobbered. Sad

What result do you get from http://speedtester.bt.com/ ?

If I'm right it's going to take about 3 days for your speeds to get back to normal.

Sudden & Dramatic Drop In Speed

I did a test as soon as the speed dropped so dramatically and the results were in my OP.

I have just done another test as follows:

IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7008 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5463 kbps

Why would my profile dropped by 500kbps whgen I have good line stats (see OP) and currently?:

Local Line ATten: 2 dB
Remote Line ATten: 4.5 dB
Local SNR Margin: 17 dB
Remote SNR Margin: 26 dB

I currently sync at 7008 kbps.

But at least the speed has returned Smiley

Sudden & Dramatic Drop In Speed

As Jelv's suggested, your router may have had a random resync event, bringing down the IP Profile to match. If you maintain sync rates at the current level you're getting, it may improve slightly further.
