Stable rate 2mb been connecting at over 7 for over 2 weeks !

Hi,

This is a known issue which BT are currently working on and part of the reason they closed the bulk regrade tool 2 weeks ago.

We are hopeful that this problem will be fixed shortly and those customers affected by this will see the BT BRAS profile (which the stable_rate figure represents) corrected.

The bulk regrade tool is due to re-open later this week and we should know more then about the fix for this particular problem.

Hi,

What speed does your modem/router say you are sync'd at? In order for the BRAS profile (and thus the stable_rate figure on the portal) to change to 1Mbps you need to be sync'd at 1152kbps or higher. If it drops below that then the throughput will decrease as well and will only go back up after at least 3 days sync'd at 1152kbps or higher.

Might be worth taking a look through

http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/10

and

http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/13

to see if anything there helps to increase the sync rate.

My ADS Max connection speed is also now set at 500kbps.

After trying to get through on the standard support number yesterday and being advised there was a 40 minute wait, I called the premium rate rip-off line and got through immediately.

I was told to run the 3 standard BT speedtests and open a call. But what's the point of going through this process if the stable rate has been set at 500kbps by BT? Surely all the speedtests will do is confirm the obvious - i.e. the speed has been set ridiculously low.

My router has consistently synch'd at around 3770 Kbps and soon after the service was enabled my connection speed was around 3 Meg and pretty stable.

If you try to open a call through the Plusnet support portal you have to go through a tortuous sequence of questions and then if you can't give the correct answers the calls self-close. Adding a comment to try to explain the situation in the hope that a human might interpret it correctly is equally useless.

Suggestions such as run a virus check seem pretty pathetic when the stable rate has already been set at 500kbps - or am I missing something?

My modem has been synching at 8128/448 for 1 month now, and my stable rate is still 2000Kbps - link to thread

Well after checking my SNR and attenuation figures I can see why the speed is now so poor. Downstream noise margin is showing as just 6 dB and attenuation is 47 dB. There has been a physical fault on the line for the past few weeks which was supposedly fixed yesterday but it seems that the loss on the line is the issue and that's why the 500kbps has been set.

Now I need to find out how to get the line fixed properly by BT. I previously had a 1Mb service in the house next door to this one and had no problems. I am plugged into the the master phone socket here and the internal wiring is all brand new.

Noise margin not SNR

Actually, having read more, it seems that the 6 Db noise margin is OK. I was thinking it was 6 dB SNR. In which case, I'm still not certain how I can go about trying to get the 500 kbps limit increased.

Our companys BT ccounts manager says they have no peroblem with regrading and it is sour grapes from people as there are no sync issues.

I asked him, "Have you read the news on the net and in the press?"

He said, he does not know what I am talking about!!!

To be fair to plus-net - this is WHOLLY a BT issue and nothing else!

At least be thankful that soon you will ahve a proper maxdsl connection!

I will NO DOUBT get mine in September, but I might move on by then as I like watching premiership footy and it is not possible with plusnet as they cripple it!
