Stable Rate dropped from 8000 to 500 AGAIN

Once again, without any disconnection, my stable rate has dropped from 8000 to 500. I'm still connecting at 8218kbps, my line usually achieves 5-6MB speeds, but this has happened three times now. Anyone any ideas why this would happen?

Stable Rate dropped from 8000 to 500 AGAIN

I get low syncs, but on 28/10/06 plusnet raised my stable rate to 8000. Since then, despite low sync I have had accecptable speeds for me, and the stable rate has remained at 8000. Today it has fallen to 500, with speeds of 450. another bad sync and I will be back to 250k.

It is therefore possible to raise someones stable rate, and keep it there despite the poor sync speeds. I have raised a question and await response, as to why I now have a low stable rate again

What was the sync and speeds you were getting before?

I'm just out of here now, but reply and I'll look at it tomorrow.

Stable Rate dropped from 8000 to 500 AGAIN

My sync is normally between 900 and 1300k, due to extentions etc. below are the speeds. The low speed of 224 was when the stable rate was raised to 8000, the last two are when its been lowered to 500k, sync at 1084

Stable Rate dropped from 8000 to 500 AGAIN

Hi there,

When you are moved to max we throttle your line speed in accordance with what BT limit your throughput to at the bRAS. This is done using Delta reports that are fed through from BTw's BBCR reporting.

There were instances where this feed wasn't working so we have to manually lift the throttling here. When we did the the only thing to do was to set it to full line speed. A downside of this was that the portal would never actually reflect your true bRAS profile as defined by BT.

winnipeg1823, this is exactly what has happened to you. We rolled a fix yesterday to change customers back who were incorrectly set at full line speed which is part of the work that was announced here:-
http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1162921462.htm

The reality is that your line has never performed at 8000kbps despite the portal reporting this. Your line looks a little touch and go to be honest looking at your hostoric Delta reports:-

01/11/2006 16:24:53: 576kbps
01/11/2006 06:41:51: 1152kbps
31/10/2006 17:16:34: 1152kbps
28/10/2006 13:22:16: 576kbps
24/10/2006 20:34:07: 288kbps
23/10/2006 10:25:02: 288kbps
22/10/2006 00:35:20: 288kbps
21/10/2006 17:52:39: 288kbps

I would suggest you remove any unecessary extension cabling you are using, unplug anything from your line that isn't really required and if possible attach you ADSL equipment via the master socket. Check all you filters and reboot your kit once a day and you should see your speeds creep up a little if your line can handle it.

Stable Rate dropped from 8000 to 500 AGAIN

thanks Bob. I do know that the line was not performing at 8000. My point is that whilst it was set at that, even low sync didnt alter it. Now Iam back to rate ataptive one low sync and Iam back to 250k speeds.
There is nothing I can do regarding extentions etc, its the way the house is, but I know my set up will support speeds of around 1000k, which Iam more than happy with, its just what is the best product to get those speeds, and I would have thought a fixed 1-2mb would be fine, any chance of a move back?Huh

Yep. Want me to look at seeing what's possible with a move back?

yes please, thanks for the reply, I was originally on a fixed 2mb product, with speeds of around 1.1mb. It would be OK to return to that
