Speeds are absolutely shocking

Last night and tonight I've been having loads of speeds problems.

Getting speeds test results of around 36-50k, tried rebooting my router and the results are coming back the same.

Is there a problem or something?

i.e.

Your current speed is:
274.80kbps

Which means you can download at 34.35 KB/sec. from our servers. Our results show that your current speed is below the level we would expect for your product, you may be able to increase the speed of your connection by adjusting your settings.

Speeds are absolutely shocking

Hi,

You know someone else will say it, so I'll jump in.

Have you run a BT Speedtest?

its ok, just checked my usage and it turns out I've hit level 1, didnt think I'd downloaded that much peak time, never download that much but never mind, my own fault.

Speeds are absolutely shocking

My speed has been reasonable (up in the 4 to 5 Mbps range) most of the time, even during peak hours.

Stange, but since yesterday (I hit the level one restrictions) my speed has been diabolical even during off-peak getting around 400 to 900Kbps.

At times (both off & peak) websites have been struggling - I even thought to check whther I had inadvertantly used my dial-up account as it was so slow.

Any ideas what is happening here?

Same thing happened with me. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. I download mainly during off-peak time. At current I have just gone to level 1 restriction. It is now 1:38am and I am getting download speeds of 20kb/s!!! That's less than a 0.5Mbps connection (which I had 2 years ago!). My line is able to get 6.5Mbps according to BT. I am currently in the process of moving over to BeUnlimited 24MBps as this is just not on!

If you have hit level 1 management and are getting poor http speeds off peak, then this would suggest that something is definitely not right.

Speeds are absolutely shocking

When I tested this morning at aound 9:30 I was getting speeds of around 4.5+Mbps.

Just over 2 hours later my speed has reduced to around .5Mbps and less.

My upload speed is around 177kbps wheras I usually get 370+kbps.

The level 1 management I am on should not be affecting off-peak downloads and the fact that I was getting almost 5Mbps earlier shows that my system cannot be at fault. For the record, though, my modem is connected directly to the master socket through a filter and I do not have any other BT sockets.

My WAN Stats are as follows:

Local Tx Power: 9.95 dB
Remote Tx Power: 19.77 dB
Local Line Atten.: 2.0 dB
Remote Line Atten.: 4.5 dB
Local SNR Margin: 14.5 dB
Remote SNR Margin: 26.0 dB

My stable rate is quoted as 8000

The BT Speed test results are:

IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1482 kbps

I did the BT speed test twice with similar results.

A speed test (http://www.speedtest.net/) initiated 20 seconds after the BT test gave the following:

Latency: 806
Download: 315
Upload: 11

Any reasons why this poor performance is occuring?

Thanks for any help.

Absolutely no idea! Shouldn't be getting anything like that with your profile.

Have you tried rebooting your connection? What kind of sync levels is your router/modem getting?

Speeds are absolutely shocking

Thanks for your quick reply James.

I have rebooted my modem. My Stats are as follows:

Sync:
Down Stream: 7680
Up Stream: 448

Local Tx Power: 9.95 dB
Remote Tx Power: 19.77 dB
Local Line Atten.: 2.0 dB
Remote Line Atten.: 4.5 dB
Local SNR Margin: 14.0 dB
Remote SNR Margin: 26.0 dB

BT Test Results:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7680 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2047 kbps

Speed Test With http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/:
D/L: 598
U/P: 338

Speed Test With http://www.speedtest.net/:
Latency: 448
D/L: 443
U/L: 286

My Stable Rate is now quoted as 7000Kbps.

Real world activity shows a sluggish conmnection for web browsing (pages taking ages to display) and file downloads were chugging along at around 60/70kbps whereas I usually was getting around 450 to 500kbps off-peak and not much less during peak.

Cheers

Sure.

Rather than repeat all this information can I just give a brief outline and a link to this thread?

Cheers

Just give the basics. I'm going to pass it through to Networks with some more information anyway.
