Speed or Contention?

Just out of interest - which is better and why?

1) 2Mb at 50:1 contention (30:1 on PlusNet side)
2) 1Mb at 20:1

Perhaps easier to answer with a question:-

With the 2Mbps, for what proportion of the time that you wished to use it do you think that it's performance would fall below 1Mbps?

My own answer would be that I wouldn't expect it to happen at all.

Speed or Contention?

The 2MB line will be faster, but there are other advantages in having 20:1 such as quicker resolution of faults raised to BT and faster uploads when MaxDSL is available.

Thanks for the reply Bob. Will any of these advantages also apply to Home Premier customers on 20:1 contended products?

Speed or Contention?

Yes, these will apply should you decide to stay on 20:1 when that option is available (and until that date).
