Speed Tests

How can they be so different in there test results.

Have just done 5 different tests in 10 mins & they come up from 3.5 to 6.39 mbps.

Anyone know why this is & how do i find out my real connection speed.

Thanks.

To find out your real connection speed use the BT speed tester with a BT speed tester login. Do not use the plusnet speed tester, and do not login with your plusnet username and password.

This will then bypass Plusnet and give you a proper speed test report.

has not the "old" bt speedtester (with the special domain login) been superseded by the "new" one here which doesn't require a login?

Speed Tests

as far as I'm aware, if you access this one whilst logged in via +Net, you're still accessing the web via +Net's servers, so will have a speed based on the data throughput via +Net (in the same way as any other speedtest site).
If you log in directly to the BT speedtester by changing your router login settings, you will be accessing the BT servers directly, so will get a true realistic line speed directly from the exchange.
