Spam Filter

Why oh why oh why ...

Can't PlusNet get the same level of spam filtering as GoogleMail?

I still (along with my wife and 13 yr old daughter) get sexually explicit spam via Plusnet but I NEVER get it from Google.

Quite frankly I fed up to the back teeth of forwarding email to the spamchecker.

Now that's what I call a good service.

We are working to improve our spam filter as a continuous ongoing process. I know how effective the google filter is and we are constantly looking for ways to improve the service that we offer.

I appreciate that forwarding emails to the spam address can be time consuming and irritating but, at the present time, this is the most effective way of helping to train the spam filter.

Quite frankly this is not good enough.

How long do you really need to identify and filter out all the messages you have been informed about from the day this fiasco started?

Inappropriate messages containing words that must have been fed back to you are still coming through.

I'll reiterate - Googlemail got this right from day 1 - you are taking months with no sign of improvement. I now require a date by which you will commit to fixing the problem.

I must agree with heely that the spam filter is not picking up even the most obvious filth. I have just forwarded another 11, received this morning and overnight. I have found that the easiest way to send them on is to go to the Junk E-mail folder in Outlook and select all (Ctrl+A) and then click "Forward" and a new e-mail opens with them all attached.

My trash folder in Squirrel usually has 60 to 80 per day which I try to delete daily. Isn't one month's retention by PlusNet a little excessive?

I think it highly likely that, if you are forwarding the spam like that, then it will be ignored by PN. The original headers need to be intact IIRC.

It is precisely for that reason that I forward them like that; I believe they arrive at PN with the headers and everything else intact.

But it would be nice to receive some guidance from PN on this matter.

Hi, well if this is an improvement then god knows. It has been worse over the past two days...
I've a good mind to bounce back all the ones I've received to +net...

Hi Heeley,

Please accept my apologies, we certainly haven't been intentionally ignoring you. Bob has the best understanding of how the spam filtering and traininig works, I'll ask him to reply in the morning.

Bob has had to describe this in a few places, a relevant thread is over at http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,4852.0.html

What is the address, mentioned in an earlier post, to forward the Spam emails? It's not mentioned under the Spam help site. So far the filter cannot recognise blatant advertised pharmaceutical products!

Walter, from my experience over the last few weeks the spam filter will never be able to identify these products.

I have absolutely no confidence that the filter system will ever be working appropriately.

I wonder what insane logic the filters work by :?: :?: :?:    How on earth can it decide with almost 70% confidence that a message with words like - pharmaceuticals, Viagra, Cialis- has a 1 in 226 chance of being Spam?
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

It seems as weak as the old e-mail platform!
