Slow downloads on BB+

I'm trying to download a software update via FTP. It's coming down at 12KB/s. Last night I downloaded the latest Windows Updates. Again they came down at 12KB/s.

I know BB+ isn't designed for heavy downloads but I'm hardly a heavy downloader - my usage rarely reaches 2GB/m. I'm getting fed up with this !!!!

Switch to PAYG then all your downloads come down at full speed. And from end June you get 2GB included for £14.99

actually broadband plus is designed for casual surfers, all forms of transfer have heavy traffic shaping.

Premier is made for heavy downloaders

Slow downloads on BB+

I'm on BB+ (and Max) and have never got speeds that slow, even before Max when I was on a 2MB line. Normally use http d/l rather than ftp, but just tested an OpenOffice ftp download and got over 200KB/s ... so maybe you hit a bad path or maybe there's an equipment or line problem somewhere? What does a BT speedtest give you?

Hi paulh177,

Thanks for that post confirming you are getting fast FTP. In the early days of BB+ FTP was shaped and it was beginning to look to me like it was again. Odd that 12KB/s seems to be pretty consisiant nuy I'll look for another cause and if things dond't improve raise a ticket.

Thanks again.

Slow downloads on BB+

As I have no life, I decided to try this again tonight.
Used Opera browser ftp, Filezilla and command-line ftp, and got only between 12 and 18kbps on all of them.

I was about to ask if you were using a downloader rather than straight ftp, as some ftp servers penalise anyone who tries to download more than one piece at a time. But that isn't the case if it's the same with plain ftp.

Yesterday I downloaded at an average of 29o kb/s and a peak of 315. Once I actually hit 350, but that was in my max training period. These are all using specialist linux distro downloads from European ftp servers. most of which restrict to a maximum of 25 users at a time so nobody is penalised by overloading the server.

That sounds like a familiar scenario. I was using Firefox to a web site I've FTP'd from before at top speed, and to our FTP server at work which I know is doing virtually nothing.

Can anyone from PN confirm whether or not FTP is being throttled again on BB+?

So is anyone from PN listening? What's the answer. Is FTP throttled on BB+? I'm still getting 12-13KB/s max.

Slow downloads on BB+

I'm a BB+ customer and I occasionally use FTP for small (<5MB) file transfers. The "is it or is it not" throttled thing has been going for ages. Last month it was flying along when they shunted FTP to the silver queue. Before that it was so-so. Before that it crawled. A year or so ago it was very fast.

Just tried to d/l a small file tonight (peak time) and I'm seeing about 12.5KB/s too. I've seen it worse, but IMO that is too low. I guess it's back in the bronze queue again.

I'm on BB+ and downloaded a 120 MB update for my show center and it took around 17 mins, I think download was at around 200 kbps, so the answer is no it is not throttle unless you have gone over you download limit
