Slow Web Browsing - DNS Problems?

Things are a little on the slow side tonight. I'm getting random DNS dropouts and seem to spend a lot of time looking at "waiting for portal.force9.net..." type status line messages in FF.

I rebooted my router earlier and that improved things temporarily but by the looks of this file, the problem appears to be at PlusNet's end.

Anyone else noticing this?

Slow Web Browsing - DNS Problems?

Hi,

If it's just the portal that's affected then we are looking at a problem which is causing it do be slower than it should be. We have got some new hardware going in and memory upgrades happening on the existing servers which should help improve performance. We're also looking at optimising some of the code as well to try and see what we can do there. We'll keep status updated with the latest info as we have it.

It's *definitely* not just the portal affected, there's huge amounts of packet loss on traceroutes to *anywhere* at the moment.

This has been widely reported in the customer-feedback newsgroup, which F9/PN seem to be ignoring this evening...

Slow Web Browsing - DNS Problems?

I'm getting the same behaviour - works ok for half an hour then drops out, unable to connect to bbc web site or amazon. A few minutes later it comes back and all seems ok for a bit. Earlier I was experiencing on-line game latency swings of between 40ms (normal) and 400ms (not normal...).

I'm seeing ping times up to 4000ms on pretty much every traceroute I do at the moment, and I've tried disconnected and reconnecting, and I get exactly the same behaviour on both pte-ag1 and pte-ag2, so it's not a load-balancing issue either.

My best guess (which is all I've got at the moment due to the silence from F9/PN) is that they're still struggling to get these stupid Ellacoyas working properly and someone's made a boo-boo.

no it aint fixed. no email at all here, and webpages are slow to open if at all.

i have only been with this lot for a few months and problems started 2 weeks after joining.

is this what i can expect for the remainder of my contract.
