Slow Speeds on 8MB Connection After Modem/Router Problems

IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 895 kbps
These are recent BT Speedtest results (router syncing at 812Cool
Why is my profile at 1000kbs
I used to get excellent speeds but had modem problems
Have now got new router/modem with no problems
Will my profile change automatically if sync rate remains stable thanx

Yes.... quite simply, the IP Profile is what BT set based on the stability of your line.

Any reduction in sync speed will trigger an immediate reduction in the IP Profile. Then, once your line is back-up and stable, it should update itself within a few days.

One trick that has been banded around is to reboot your router once or twice a day, forcing a resync (which should be at the same speed).

This isn't something we can update or change. It is updated automatically and is at BT's side. If it doesn't update within 10 days, then we have the ability to raise a fault, providing you've had a steady, stable, sync - but not before.

Sorry about that!

We only have the ability to amend your profile at our end. This is nothing to do with the IP Profile.

PS: Read the sticky.

Is it not possible for PN to leave their profile at 8000 to prevent delay in speed increases when BT profile restabilises after a blip.

Nope.

My understanding is that setting a profile higher than the BT profile can lead to packet loss, which you don't want.

I understand.

If you keep getting these blips... Ie Week at stable speed, blip, drop for 3-7 days sometimes down to 500k, then staged increases back to 2000-2500, even got to 3000 once, couple of stable weeks, blip drop repeat, repeat - is there likely to be a fault?

BT profile now at 2500 but didnt reset PNs profile this morning.

I've just changed your profile at this end.

There are a few cases whereby some customers have experienced numerous changes speedwise on their connections. This could be down to a higher and fluctuating level of noise on the line, which would not be deemed (by BT) as a fault. It could also be down to line/exchange issues as well as internal hardware problems.
