Slow Download Speeds even with Premier Service

I have been a customer for less than 1 week and already noticed that my line speed is well below what I used to get before migrating from BT.
I know about line contention and the like but I thought I was paying for a premier service where download speeds would not be too adversly affected.
I Am if anyone else has experienced this.
Here is a typical download report just within a few minutes and agin a couple of hours later. Anyone care to comment

I am beginning to think that the time between 1900hrs and 21hrs are generally a busy period and a bad time for broadband as I notice all your figures are from 1900hrs and the speed starts to rise again after 2030hrs here is one series of mine taken about the same time

11-01-2006 22:37:21 1909.7
11-01-2006 21:57:04 1905.7

notice that they too start to return to "normal" after the busy period. So showing the same characteristics as your figures.

If you're experiencing slow speeds, then I'd suggest taking a look at this post as it contains useful information about speed fault diagnosis, and might help you investigate this further.

If you're experiencing slow speeds,

Hi Jon

I am not complaining about slow speeds...... but as a matter of general interest for myself would you say by looking at my previous post, and given the gradual decline in speeds and then the build up again to somewhat normal speeds could be indicative of contention at the exchange rather than anything that Plusnet is doing?

And does that time frame coincide by any chance with the internet being at it's peak as regards traffic? Sorry I cannot word that better but hope you know what I mean

Just curious as I cannot imagine that Plusnet would slow me down to that extent at that particular time of day.My personal gut feeling is that as it is a relatively short time span (about an hour) it is congestion at my exchange which coincedently is showing as "amber" so would probably be more pronounced if someones exchange was perhaps "red"

Looking at those figures, it could well be down to exchange contention causing the slowdown, especially if it happens at similar times on most days.

There shouldn't be anything that we are actively doing that causes this kind of slowdown. Additionaly, due to its priority through the network, http shouldn't be suffering under standard network load, as this should only really show signs of having problems during a major network incident.

Stew's post seems to be somewhat reticent about possible ISP caused problems Wink -- you could try looking here as well!
