Satellite broadband

Does Plusnet have any plans to offer any satellite broadband packages in the near future?

RE: Satellite broadband

Hi John,

I am not going to totally dismiss this proposal but I am unaware of any plans to introduce such a service in the near future.

With the lack of ADSL availablity in some parts of the country, I guess this is a feasible option but as I understand it, such a service (where available) is very expensive at the current time and in may cases, is subject to upload / download limitations.

Regards,
Mark.

Thanks for that, Mark. What prompted me to ask the question was the contents of this link:

I quite agree that satellite broadband cost is the deterrent but with schemes likes this evolving, it might make it a viable business proposition for Plusnet.

I run a small company which exactly fulfills the criteria of the scheme and is within the scope of its next phase, but so far as I can see, I would have to receive service direct from BT, which wouldn't be my preferred route!

Just a thought...

I guess you got that BT mailshot yesterday as well. If not prices are around £2,300 for a 4 user setup (although contract rental/purchase is available), and around £110 p/m for the service. Single user setups are cheaper.

Couldn't quite justify it to the boss, but if the price per user drops ... You can also apply for government grants here (up to £700) to ease the burden.

The single user grant in the link above is £1,066 which covers the installation and the first year's subscription.

I think my biggest problem would be planning permission for the dish (I live near to a conservation area).
