This is getting silly, before 9.30am I was flying with downloads hitting 600kb's, once 9.30 hit someone must have hit the magic switch!!!

Come on PN what is going on.

I'm getting 5374 kbps with a latency of 30ms, so I'd check your exchange for congestion.

What is happening in the world that Saturday morning is so busy at my exchange?
This is abnormally slow even by PlusNet/BT standards. I have rebooted the computer, switched off the router for a few minutes, and all speed tests are abysmal. Good noise margin, so it must be a constriction someplace.

I can't seem to find a reliable site that has reliable up to date BT exchange information - the usertools one is a month or so behind, so actually knowing the exchange capacity is difficult to determine.

I'm on the Dunfermline exchange - which no doubt is a busy one, with all the commuters who work in Edinburgh moving here to sleep and browse the net.

Virtually no P2P here and http downloads are also dire.

Things have been dodgy for at least a week but this is the worst so far.

Same symptoms here - terrible latency / spiky /slow speeds.

Not to mention *trying* to listen to streaming radio from BBC -
it just keeps breaking up - and it's not like that at work where I can listen for the whole day over dsl with no break up.

This is definitely plusnet specific.

How did you come to this assertion? Because it is ok at work?

If this is how you drew your conclusion, then I am afraid this shows that you are making the most basic error in fault finding - that being "assumption".
In this case you seem to be assuming all is fine with your PC, your hardware, your internal wiring, BT's wiring, and your local exchange.
Not very conclusive is it?

I'm not saying this isn't PN (it may be) but just because you have some similar symptoms to someone else, does not mean you are definitely suffering the same problem, and it certainly doesn't eliminate all the other variables.

Ian,

I've had this problem for over 3 weeks, and an open ticket for 3 weeks tomorrow. Great speed tests through the night then bang they drop to nish. You guys in support just keep bouncing it around with very little feed back.

I now, for the second time this week, can't even get to the plus.net site from my connection (I have to use terminal services to my works server to access the site). All this began since I was moved to LLU by Plus Net. Take a look at the info below:

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin>tracert plus.net

Tracing route to plus.net [212.159.8.137]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 31 ms 31 ms 31 ms lo0-plusnet.ptn-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.123]
3 32 ms 31 ms 29 ms ge0-0-0-103.ptn-gw1.plus.net [84.92.3.17]
4 30 ms 31 ms 35 ms gi0-2-32.ptc-gw1.plus.net [195.166.129.10]
5 38 ms 40 ms * se3-0.pih-gw1.plus.net [195.166.129.250]
6 44 ms 40 ms 37 ms vlan8.pih-gw4.plus.net [212.159.0.30]
7 42 ms 43 ms 40 ms pih-al4.plus.net [212.159.1.36]
8 * * *

Speed Tests:

Date Speed Achieved (kbps)
16-09-2006 10:03:58 376.8
16-09-2006 09:29:33 849.3
16-09-2006 08:59:16 1102.2
16-09-2006 08:58:30 845.6
16-09-2006 08:25:09 6192
16-09-2006 07:57:57 6317.7
16-09-2006 07:48:47 3736.1
16-09-2006 07:37:29 6217.1
16-09-2006 06:00:50 5296.6

And these have been good results compared with earlier this week!

Re: S L O W

I am getting the same. Usual cr@p, ("it's them not us") from PlusNet. I really am getting fed up with this awful service. Been waiting over six months for an upgrade now.

Life?

Hi unlucky

I am a customer just like yourself.

The problems with LLU are well documented in several threads on this board.
This thread had no mention of LLU issues until your post.
Are you assuming that the OP and everyone else is in this thread is suffering the exact same issues as yourself?
The thing is, they may be...........but I have not read anything to that effect.

BTW I really sympathise with your situation regarding the LLU horror!
I was amongst the first to express concern over PN's original talks towards using Tiscali as an network partner.

Hi Braeside,

If you're getting shocking speeds on BT's tests, then that's pointing to a problem on their network rather than ours. Most likely outcome is that it's exchange contention, although you would have thought that Saturday mornings are strange times Smiley

Best bet would be to raise a fault via http://faults.plus.net

From my side, I was downloading torrents at around 700kb/s at 9pm last night, but don't tell the boss Wink

Thanks James, it is just that it has suddenly got an order worse this weekend, both Sat and Sunday.
I'll leave it a bit and see if things improve, then take it from there.

Cheers

My connection (LLU) is noticably slow today. We sync at ~8000kb/s and are used to getting download speeds in the region of ~6500kb/s.

Today it is more like 1500kb/s.
