Regular disconnections since power outage?

I had a stable connection until the power outage last Thursday, and now I get regular disconnections which started that same day. I assumed these disconnections would settle down over time, but seemingly it isn't.

I'm not loosing sync, but the PPPoA session is ending, causing me to reboot the router to regain internet access (it only auto-reconnects if sync is lost by the looks of it).

This is causing me a lot of grief as I regularly connect to my home pc from work to look up various things, retrieve files/etc.

Any one else having similar problems, and any chance one of the comms guys can have a poke in the logs to see why the session is being ended?

Regular disconnections since power outage?

Hi,

I'm seeing 8 disconnections in the last 7 days, a couple haven't closed off which can happen if the session drops but we haven't received the stop packet and the rest all show user request which normally means your equipment ended the session and disconnected itself.

Cheers for the info Dave. I'll see if I can find out why it's deciding to drop the PPP session.

Regular disconnections since power outage?

What about the charts shown on http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/network/broadband_bandwidth_usage.shtml that also show some significant % being disconnected pretty frequently ... or is this chart meaningless. On some recent days I could attribute this to thunderstorms, but not today from looking at the BBC weather radar. Sad

But Dave.. you said the same thing in this thread :? And there are a few of us seeing this now..

I cant be sure if I have the same problem because my router doesn't log PPP drops Sad but I have been dropping out from game servers since the power outage

I recall something last year that LCP echo packets were not being prioritised properly and was causing these connection drops - could the power outage / management reload have somehow corrupted this?

I'm beginning to think that rebooting the equipment last thursday changed some settings which were not correctly saved to a non-volatile storage from before the outage.

But surely, PN keep a detailed log of all and any changes they make to any equipment just in case a router/etc blows up, dies or loses it's configuration?

Regular disconnections since power outage?

Hi,

I've just had a word with one of our Network Engineers and he assures me that the router configs are regularly backed up and checked through.

Part of the clean up after the outage was to check through the configs loaded on the routers that went down, and there have been no changes to the active configuration of the routers.

Regular disconnections since power outage?

There have been a couple of days since the outage where I have lost the internet connection but do not lose sync. The router keeps saying "Trying to connect" followed by "Incorrect username or password".

The only way to rectify it is to reboot the router - although once it did come back on it's own after several hours (I was at work so couldn't do anything about it). This problem has only happened since the end of last week and nothing has changed at my end.

I'm on LLU if that's significant.

So on the graphs http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/network/broadband_bandwidth_usage.shtml

Why have the disconnections stopped at about midnight each night?

Why, at 9AM, do the dropped packets coincide with the disconnects of 35K people?

This pattern of 'drops' has only started since the power outage.

Hi,

As mentioned here (not sure whether or not you read it)

http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,2956.msg35976.html#msg35976

The reason for this is that there is a SNMP bug on the Juniper ERXs that cuase the graphs to appear like this until they are rebooted. The bug has no impact on the performance of he rest of the box. We are working with Juniper to help them resolve the issue.

This is merely a reporting issue, and these connections are not being dropped as the graphs are appearing to demonstrate.

Regular disconnections since power outage?

Hmmmm, I've checked my equipment and can't see any reason for the dropping of the PPP session, and the situation itself doesn't seem to be improving, looking at the graph below. (Red = Packet loss).

http://www.squidgey.plus.com/graph220806.png

Throughout the day, there seems to have been a very high number of disconnections, this must be the worst it's ever been (for number of disconnections - I've had outages when I've not been able to connect for over 8 hours)

Although I think it's nice and convenient to download at speeds of 500Kbytes/sec, I'd much prefer my previous *stable* 2mbits/sec connection and download at half the speed.

Regular disconnections since power outage?

I too am suffering from randowm disconnections- anything from 30 mins to 2 hours apart. Seems to be no logical explanation for them, and my connection last week was nice and stable.

I can solve it by rebooting the router (linksys) and computers on the network, but it's a major pain.

Any ideas whether this will go away?

Regular disconnections since power outage?

I`m getting these outages as well and I am only on a fixed 1mb connection - gave up on MAX and asked to be put back on my previous 2 year stable product after getting a stable rate of 8000 on Max with downloads of 90 - 130 kbps - smoking like a chimney waiting for pages to load up. Needed net for job prospects for wife and she was going up the wall with the slow speed. Am now getting download speeds upto 1mb but it looks like some piece of kit is up the creek at PN or BT. Thank God i`m not on llu

What the hell is going on? I have a stable connection this morning, no gaming ping problem whatsoever and then I go out for a couple of hours, just get back and now everytime I try to get a server list on BF2 my connection drops... EVERY TIME!!!

It comes straight back but is incredibly annoying!

PN what is happening your end? :x
