Question about attenuation and faster ADSL packages...

Hi folks.

From reading around here I believe that faster ADSL is just around the corner. I'm currently on a 2mbps connection (the premium package) and I generally get most of that most of the time.

I've logged into my dsl router and got my attenuation figures - can anyone advise what kind of throughput I'd be likely to achieve once my exchange has been upgraded?

The figures are:

Downstream Upstream
Margin [dB] : 25 23
Attenuation [dB] : 25 11

Available Bandwidth Cells Kbits
Downstream : 5358 2057
Upstream : 679 260

Also, is there a list anywhere that will give me a rough idea when my local exchange will be updated? Once this is done, will Plus Net allow me to use the maximum achievable speed?

Ta,

John

Hi there,

The attenuation and noise margin figures you have are pretty good. I would expect you to be able to gain sync toward the maximum figure. Your exchange will have been upgraded, but you will need to wait for your line to be upgraded by us.

There is no definite timescale for this, however, all lines should be upgraded by the end of September.
