Probably a stupid question

With ADSL do I need to use the line splitter if I am not using any telephones. Therefore can I just plug the modem straight in? Thanks for your patience. Alan

RE: Probably a stupid question

Yes you must use a splitter to split the normal phone singals from the ADSL signals.

Thanks

RE: Probably a stupid question

Probably another stupid question but...

is there any sound technical reason why the linebox mounted ADSL filter can only be fitted by a BT engineer. After all as far as I can see it's only a substitute for the subscriber side part and nothing to do with the back part. You and I are allowed to take that bit off to connect up phone extensions so why can't we change it for a filter.

Just that the plug-in filter looks a little untidy...

It's only a year since I managed to rip out a load of rather messy post office extension wire and replace it with new wires running through our loft out of sight.

RE: Probably a stupid question

It might sound daft, but the wire and socket belong to BT and they do not take kindly to people messing about with them.

Everything from the socket is yours, that is why we recommend filters which plug into the face plate.

Kind regards

Kevin
