Poor Speedtester Results tonight

I am getting sub 700kb/s on speed tests this evening from both www.speedtest.net and www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk, is this just me?

The BBMax URL should be http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ not what's above...

I too am getting very poor speeds tonight. Between 800k and 1mb, I have achieved 6mb in the past so this shows how slow it is at the moment.

I'm having the same problem here and it's getting worse.

Can't finish several tracert's either. And just to top it off the emails gone arse over tit. Fantastic.

While I wait for PN to do something it looks like its 360 for me.

Me too, sub 1mb on all speedtest sites, cant even get the BT speedtest to work at all..this is brutal Plusnet!

Have had a steady synch of 8128kbps for past 3 weeks and my portal BRAS is showing at a steady 8000kbps for the past 2 weeks, but my average speed today is around 800k..what is going on? This is the worst I have seen it in a long time!

The worst it's been so far. Also sync at 8128kbps but....

Sub 1Mb speeds and yet my brother on Clara (same exchange) is currently enjoying 7Mb

Wait for the "contention" card...

I've just phoned PlusNet (via PlusTalk which was probably the most suprising thing of the lot as it's usually really poor to unusable, but tonight it was clearer than a landline!) and spoken with a very friendly member of the PN team (which is another suprise as I usually can't get through.... :rollSmiley and apparently they're not aware of this problem and haven't had other calls about it tonight.

The issue is going to be raised though so as they can do more testing and if more people report it a service status will go out. He's seen this topic here, and I've said about the posts in other forums where there are other people with the same problem which suggest it's a network wide issue.

Must say, worst connection speeds ever tonight, but one of the most helpful members of CSC team I've dealt with for ages.

I've noticed my speeds seem to have increased a bit within the last 10 to 15 minutes too, although they're still well below what the BT Speedtester login is giving.

BBMax speedtest:
Download Speed: 867 kbps (108.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 366 kbps (45.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

BT Wholsale speedtest (whilst connected via PN)
775 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

BT Wholesale speedtest (connected via the speedtest login)
5620 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

5551 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

Tonight the service is much better, not sure if PN have done anything or if last night was just a 'blip' on usage.

My results from ISP speedtesters and BT pretty much match

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2720 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1863 kbps

Just done a speed test on PN, results:

Your current speed is:

132.40kbps

Which means you can download at 16.55 KB/sec. from our servers.

Suffice to say I'm not happy about this, what's going on? I'm on 6meg broadband premier option 1, and on the start of a billing month so no caps on my speed should apply.

see the BT speedtester,
you enter the telephone number to start then your ISP login username which it then performs the speed test.
But when the results are displayed, there is another option for a second test which you have to log-in using "bt_test@<yourISP>" and the PW blank. This doesn't work for me and i would be grateful if someone could help me on this matter.
