Plusnet mail time wrong

I don't mean to nitpick but some of Plusnet's mail machines are not at the correct time. (Not the time zone).

I get mail at about 10:36 actual time arriving stamped at 10:41

There are time lags between servers when sending emails. If you go here and paste the header in then you will see all the hops and delays.

Plusnet mail time wrong

Sorry you missed the point - the mail arrives on time, the time stamp is wrong. The clock on the Server is wrong.

PN timestamps are correct on my emails  Im sure that PN time is sync'ed to a time standard source as I do is with my mail server.

When you review the inbox the time displayed is the time the email was received by the final server. In you example this was 09:41:41 +0000. When the email is open to read the time displayed is when the email is sent, in your example this was 10:35:51 +0100.

I'm sorry I disagree in this case i opened the mail at 10:36 and the stamp was 10:41 by the PN server - so it is wrong.

Unfortunately as all my emails are delvered to my server I cannot check sunmxcore's timestamps. But when you receive the notification for this entry you can reply including the header to prove your point.

Plusnet mail time wrong

I have also checked my time here against MSF just in case I had a rogue NTP.

Maybe I should get PN to send me next week's lottery numbers before they come out? Cheesy

Yep look like you are right. Below is the header from the notification. 3 hops with zero seconds delay!!! But time received agree with the final timestamp.

Yep, looks like they have a bad NTP at PN on those final servers. It can get confusing if the mail arrives before it is timestamped so they should really fix it.

I wonder if I should raise a ticket? - no perhaps I'll leave it for now as they have plenty other things to fix just now

Plusnet mail time wrong

I used to sync to ntp.plus.net but frankly it's as unreliable as , hmm, their cgi or email servers

Chillypenguin: - do you mean their NTP or their email service?

I don't use their NTP, but do use the email and expect the mail to be time stamped correctly.

Oh yes; but then NTP isn't hard to keep running at all. Of course you could argue email isn't hard to keep running. Or CGI. It's just symptomatic of the problems plusnet have in offering anything but limited bandwidth.
