PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! im loseing conection aprox every 1 hr

hi people

please if you have any ideas ...please say :?

i jioned plus net about 6 months ago...i pay 14.99 pm for the service
for the 1st 3 months everything seemed to work fine---for the last 3 months i have had a lot of disconections
and all i have to do is is reboot my router and im back on line again (although any downloads are lost etc)

AT 1ST IT ONLY SEEMED TO HAPPEN WHEN IT WAS RAINING HEAVY OUTSIDE might be coinsidance but unlikely

i have been through the check list on plus net help- for loss of conection...and i have replaced my telephone and router and adsl adaptors...

i dont think the plus net auto disconect feature would see my line as not in use because im normally web browsing and msn etc when im cut off

i have had BT here to check the line a few times ...but they are reluctant to admit anything is wrong with the line and will not help anymore ...they tell me i must contact my ISP before they will take any action at the ISP request

this is my 2nd router and the problem still persists
to give you an idea what the hard ware is saying:
for the last hour i have monitord the router log...and i got cut of once in that time (the web pages just slowed up and ground to a hault)
router conection status says this even when lost conection occurs:
Connection Status on router
On Netgear ADSL ROUTER GD834GT

Connection Time 01:57:43 Connecting to Server Connected Negotiation Success Authentication Success
Getting IP Addresses 87.114.8.149 Getting Network Mask 255.255.255.255

the router log says this even when conection is lost :

Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:07 - Administrator login successful - IP:192.168.0.2
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:00:21 - Initialize LCP.

if i ping my dns server when the web pages is starting to slow down and finally conection is lost...this is what it says:

and 30mins later it says:

from your line stats I'm guessing that you are on an LLU circuit, don't think the BT speed tester will work for you :?

This is likely to be the cause of your problem: Netgear ADSL ROUTER GD834GT

I have exactly the same problem and so do many others. Its down to the router. There are some other posts about Netgear routers doing the same thing.

Yup, I've come across some problematic DG834GT's in my time too. If you can borrow a friends modem or router to see if this helps, it will at least let us diagnose the problem further.

Otherwise, change your filters and ensure that you are wired directly into the test socket behind the master faceplate.

hi guys thanks for the input

i have tryed a other netgear router a more basic model without the wireless addon

the other router did seem to last a little longer with out drop outs----but again when it rains hard outside this is when i get cut more often

is it possible that since my line was upgraded a few months agao that its made the sync more important with the router?

and can my conection speed be turned down to work better with the netgear?

can any1 advise on a router that would work better?

thanks a lot guys

best wishes

When it rains heavily, can you hear any reduction in the quality of your ordinary telephone?

(Try the quiet line test: 17070 option 2)

hi

no the line test is very quiet and no crackle etc
the BT engineer has ran his scope on the line from the house and cant see any problems (although he only comes when it is mostly dry)

all the conections to my box have been opened and clean by BT...the only other possiblity is the wire from the exchange is getting water in

its raining heavey here atm this is the router stats atm

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! im loseing conection aprox every 1 hr

Hi,

The number of problems I've seen because of the weather must run into the hundreds, if not thousands, especially with Max.

The way Max works is that it operates on the limits of ADSL technology and therefore the limits of your phone line. With the old fixed rate (512, 1Mbps and 2Mbps) speeds you would likely have had plenty of SNR to spare, so when it rained the SNR would drop, but not enough to cause a problem or disconnect the connection.

With Max though it probably only needs a few dB drop to cause a drop. What to do? Chances are as you say, some part of your line is getting water logged, to fix it there's really two options, increase the target SNR (and thus lower the speed) so that there's plenty of margin for when it rains and the SNR drops or try and find where the water logging is happening.

Unless it's something obvious on your property find the water logging may not be easy, but we can raise a fault to get it looked into. If you go to

http://faults.plus.net

complete all the details and provide us as much information as you can and we can get it looked into. Lowering the speed may be easier and quicker to do, but I'd suggest having it looked into to see if there's anything else that we can do.

hi dave

many thanks for that
i will follow your instructions and filll in the form

but if the worst happens and they cant fix it ...im happy to get my speed lowerd or change settings on my router to slow things down....and give me more stable conection

many thanks for now
