PAYG Traffic Management and Upgrade

All the talk about Tiscali and BT pipes and upgrades is confusing.

I'm on PAYG. If I want the fastest, most reliable coinnection what do I need to opt in or out of.... if anything?

When will my upgrade be? I must count as a loyal customer, I've been with you about 5 years.

Also - please can Plusnet explain how PAYG is throttled, both day and night? I am still feelling that there may be some traffic management on PAYG.

Is there or isn't there?

Thanks.

PAYG Traffic Management and Upgrade

There is a degree of traffic management on PAYG - but it is the lowest of all residential accounts.

Only thing I have noticed is that P2P can be slowish at peak times. Everything else including ftp seems to be unaffected. But then again I'm only on 1 Mb/s and it may be different on the higher speeds.

The "official" answer I've seen given by PN staff is that yes, PAYG is managed, but it would only ever be noticeable if PN were running at full capacity on their equipment - something that is not a normal occurrence, but could happen if a crucial piece of equipment failed. Apart from that, customers on PAYG should have a completely "clean" connection at all times of the day, as in paying £1/£1.25 per GB, you're paying quite a bit more than PN pay BT per GB, so they can afford to not shape you, as it were.

And now with free overnight usage not counting in you 1Gb/2Gb quota, you can download a whole lot of data as fast as the PN network can carry it.

Also, compared to BB+, if you were interested in gaming then PAYG could be for you too.

PAYG Traffic Management and Upgrade

I seem to get around 100KBs on p2p, whereas tops on my 2mb connection surely ought to be around 200.

Is something up or is this usual?

Also can Plusnet answer the questions in the first post about whether I need to apply for something to do with Tiscali pipes?

I'd like the best speeds, but am confused as explained at the top of this.

Thanks everyone. Smiley

what kind of speeds do you get on plusnet speed & what speed did you get on that torrent?

PN speed test - connection settings(on the left) > bandwidth speed test.

what bit torrent client do you use?

About 1800 on the speed test, but only 50 to 100 on Shareaza.

CAN PLUSNET OR ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHETHER I SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TISCALI QUEUE JUMP/PIPES THING?

I want the best speeds (I am on PAYG 10mb) and don't know if I'm suposed to register or something, or which is better BT or this new Tiscali LLU (or whatever it is called) thing.

Help ?? Smiley
