P2P Speeds

I know that PN use traffic shaping to ensure that certain types of traffic are given a higher priority than others and are not affected by heavy P2P users, and also that i can expect to see slower speeds using P2P than i would normally expect from my connection at most times.

However, what kind of speeds should i expect to see when downloading using P2P?

I have done the BT Speed test, which returned the below:

*****************************************
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5600 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4417 kbps
******************************************

I have also done PN Speedtests, coming in at between 2000 & 3500. I can download over http from microsoft.com, etc at approx 400-500kbps, but when using P2P i very very rarely see anything over 20kbps.

Is this realistic, and what i should really be expecting?

Realistically, unless you are on a PAYG product, you won't see P2P speeds much higher than that until after 11pm/Midnight.

I'd recommend using the Namesco Speedtest for a reliable non-BT one.
