P2P Speeds? (Using WinMX 3.22)

I read this forum on a regualar basis and a few days somebody posted that they couldn't get over 5Kb/s d/l speed. I thought "you poor bugger, glad when I had DSL I never had that prob." Well, I finally get my DSL back and now P2P speeds are rediculously slow! I am currently connected to 8 people to get 1 song (WinMX network) and the combined speed in only 10Kb/sec! And they are all cable or DSL users.

So what the hell is going on? This occurs at all times of the day too, not peak ti9mes as you would expect.

Is anyone else having this prob? I could easily get 40-50Kb/s before my sevice got mistakenly disconnected by BT. It's as if I'm still on dialup! ARG!!!

Hi Homer,
We don't restrict your service in any way -- with P2P networks due to their network topology you can't really guarantee any kind of speed level.

RE: P2P Speeds? (Using WinMX 3.22)

Hi Mike,

referring to Heners_UK's post on 23/6/02 I agree that speed has dropped dramatically since I got disconnected (7/6/02). The speeds I was getting were great. So what could have possibly happened between now and then to cause such a dramatic drop in speed? Did a cable in the channel get chopped up or something?

In all the time I've had highspeed (2 1/2 yrs) I have never seen it anywhere near this bad.

All in all this pretty much sux. I'd like to arrange a test with another plusnet user having the same probs (Heners_UK....interested?).

I am sadSad

what are the alternatives?

thanks

RE: P2P Speeds? (Using WinMX 3.22)

Hi Homer,
We're not actively touching your DSL traffic though, so I'm not sure what is going on. Remember KPNQwest recently closed down which may be affecting other providers transit bandwidth (we don't use these but due to P2P you'd be connecting to other providers)

Mike
