NO video, no talk on wondow or msn messenger

for the past month the video and audio didn't work. I can use both the mic and the webcam for other applications, but not for messenger. I even updated messenger to version 5 0 0 544 and still not thing. If I try to invite someone for a conversation or video, messenger says ... connecting .... and then it aborts the connection after 15 seconds or so. Two month ago it used to work fine.
I tried to put the firewall off, still di not work.
I do not want to change any port configurations.

Any ideasHuh?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If you're using a router you may need to setup port forwarding for the relevant ports that messenger uses. I would expect the port information to be available on MSN's website.

Kind Regards,
Rob

Thanks for your quick response Rob, I checked some reviews about the router that +net supplied me with, and this is what I found:

Solwise 110 ..... Software compatibility wise the router is in the mid ground. Why the mid ground? Well the lack of MS Messenger UPnP or SIP support; means that video support is lacking .....

What dipresses me is that I signed up for ADSL/router so I would overcome any limitations that I might have with modems. I am not educated enough to know about Upnp, and besides, I did not have any choice in deciding which router to select.

So, give me a piece of advice, what are my choices to be able to run msn video and talk?

Do +net upgrade routers?

Thanks for your support.

RE: NO video, thanks for your quick response.

UpnP you don't need for video/audio send recieve.
All you need are the right ports open for sending and recieving audio/video.
Get the info from the instructions that came with it.

Also be advised if you are using windows XP and windows messenger you cannot enable cam to cam for web conferences if the pc you are interacting with is not XP. In this case use ICU or Yahoo messenger.
