Unfortunately BT do not guarantee Service level agreement with upload speeds and hence we cannot raise a fault on the line. Please continue to monitor the speeds to see if these improved

Speed Test Results
Date 14/03/07 19:31:07
Speed Down 352.40 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
Speed Up 58.45 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )

I am now waiting for BE enable my exchange! Cheesy

Hi,

There's definately something not right here, but tough to say what. My first suggestion is to run the BT speedtest and see what result that gives:

http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/troubleshooting/bt_speed_tester.shtml

From there, are you able to try a different modem/router? I think the speed may be a but of a red herring and the actual problem is packet loss and speeds are lower because of the amount of packet loss. Do you know if interleaving is enabled on your line?

I have tried a diffrent router, but no better connection.

interleaving is enabled om my line

I can not get BT speedtest to work today, but normaly i have above 2MB connection, it dose not test my upload which is the main problem.

Does it make any difference what time of day it is? For example, do you only notice the problem in an evening or do you get packet loss at any time of the day or night? Best time to compare with would be early morning (7am to midday) after the streetlights go off.

Do you also get a lot of dropped connections, loss of sync (usually indicated by a flashing ADSL light on the modem)?

Also what are your line stats? How to get the stats from most hardware is here:

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

I'd also say to watch the downstream and upstream SNR (noise margin) figures and see if they fluctuate, a few dB change is normal but I'm wondering if it's changing a lot.

I'm thinking that there's probably one of two things happening here, the alternate hardware pretty much confirms this.

The first is that there's some kind of interference happening on the line causing either big noise spikes (which I would expect to see the SNR figure going up and down quite a lot) and probably loss of sync as well (but not necessarily( or there's a fault on the line card at the exchange.

My internet connection

I dont get loss of sync.

Downstream
SNR Margin 10.3 dB (only this number changes)
Line Attenuation 50.1 dB
Data Rate 3456 kbps

Upstream
SNR Margin 20.0 dB
Line Attenuation 27.0 dB
Data Rate 448 kbps

Max Tx Power: -38 dBm/Hz

my phone line was replaced on 15 jan 2007, because of a falling tree.

How much does that SNR value change by do you know? If it's just 2 or 3dB either way probably nothing to worry about, but if's 5 or more then I would say line fault or at least line interference, probably because of the replacement line.

Downstream SNR Margin is betwween 11.3 dB to 12.3 dB

Hi Fistsbs,

To save me reading through 33 days of ticket history, can you confirm a few things for me?

- You've tried the BT test socket
- You have been wired into the master via a filter
- Off peak speeds are ok
- You've tried using a different router (which you have)
- You've tried changing your filter

I have connected spare pc and router to master socket, with differnt filter.

off peak speed the same!

I have checked internal wiring.

Interesting you say that Dave. Now that I can monitor my line stats, I usually connect at 9dB but this can drop as low as 0 or 3dB. However, I am aware that the Netgear 834G router can have issues with the SNR dropping (I do have the latest firmware). So I'm not sure if it's still a line issue or the router.

You will not see an immediate increase in results from speed tests. You need to see if the sync speed reported by your modem/router (and the other stats) has improved. If so, in 3 or 4 days time BT will raise your IP Profile and you will start to see better speeds.

Right, thanks.

Did you notice any improvement over the last 12 hours or so since you made those changes?

This isn't a profiling issue, as you're on 2500Kbps at both our and BTs end.
