Modems...

Can anyone recommend a good modem? I'd like a V.92 to use with my Plusnet connection.

I cant seem to find any Modem review sites.

Thanks.

RE: Modems...

Hi,

I have an Elsa USB Fun 56k modem which is V92 compatible. It was easy to install, however it is now retired in favour of my ADSL Fish. Do a search on Insight (www.insight.com/uk) or Action (www.action.com). Please be aware that V92 only workis with our 0845 numbers, and our 0808 unmetered Connect service is not V92 compatible.

Thanks
Chris

Oh right, thanks for telling me. Any future plans to have the v.92 with the 0808 numbers?

Your DSL packages are very good, as soon as i can get it in my area i will most probably take out the service with you.

Thanks for the time and info,

Simon

RE: Modems...

Hi Simon,

That would be dependant on BT installing the v92 updates at the local exchanges. As yet they have not indicated any plans to do this.

Thanks

Probably wont ever happen then. They're having a hard enough time DSLing the local exchanges.

Oh well.

v.92 is a modem standard I thought I would see and use before upgrading to ADSL but you would have to agree that a new modem standard like v.92 from v.90 is too little too late with ADSL within reach.

Indeed, in much the same way that the 56k standard pushed the ISDN offerings into the shadows. Having said that, I STILL can't get ADSL so dial up is the only way forward (or backwards) for me!

Mark.

If you want the "Rolls Royce" of modems then get a US Robotics, they simply are the best.
