Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

Hi

May account was maxed last Monday (11th Sep) and has consistently been sync'ing at the full 8128 / 448. I've been rebooting the router every day and running the speed tests, with the following results;

20-09-2006 06:20:48 6316.1
20-09-2006 06:20:31 6291.9
19-09-2006 20:30:54 878.8
19-09-2006 20:30:31 998
18-09-2006 23:11:28 1745.7
18-09-2006 23:11:08 1208
18-09-2006 06:24:22 5319.7
18-09-2006 06:24:12 5312
17-09-2006 10:02:01 4915.2
17-09-2006 10:01:48 5009.4
17-09-2006 10:01:33 3902.8
16-09-2006 18:46:28 2075
16-09-2006 18:46:05 1773.2
16-09-2006 18:39:50 2008.8
16-09-2006 18:39:28 1474.1
16-09-2006 18:39:03 1647
16-09-2006 08:51:13 2818.2
16-09-2006 08:50:57 2873.6
16-09-2006 08:50:30 3193.1
15-09-2006 08:11:00 2888.4

What kind of spped can I expect to see when it's settled down? The speed test this morning was the best yet, at just over 6 Meg, so I'm happy with that. Should I keep rebooting for another week or so?

Cheers

Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

I'm in the same situation as you, what is your stable rate set to ?

mines just locked at 2000kbs so I don't see speeds any higher than 2meg.

I also sync at 8128 & 448 with no disconnects. I reboot a few times a day to help the situation.

No speed increase at all

Hi Bobbygeorge,

I've made some changes to your line profile. Can you reboot and see if you notice any differences in speed?

Mine also appears to be locked at 2000 although like you I sync at 8128 & 448. I have rebooted daily now for about 10 days. I am about 400yds from the exchange. I connect directly to the master in socket.

Previously I had a rock solid connection at 2meg and so haven't seen any change at all, either!

My tickets just go down a black hole...

I raised a forum topic earlier - no smiles for max - but haven't had any replies except another poor customer with the same problem!

What do we do?

James - I see you're watching this forum, so maybe you can check this out?

I have just seen a reply in another forum:

Please note that if BT has not yet set your download speed, your Data Transfer Rate value will be set to 2000 by default. There is a problem that BT are aware of whereby some customers are not having their download speed set even after the first 14 days of ‘Up to 8Mb’ service. If you affected in this manner please notify us so we can raise the issue with BT on your behalf.

Could that maybe apply to me?

Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

james,

I've re-booted & synced at 8128/448 speed test shows 1890 - 1900 on both your speed check & BT's which would suggest my profile is locked at 2meg.

Do I assume that BT need to update their line stats before I see any speed increase, i've notices my stable rate in now showing 8000kbs so obviously it aint Plusnet.

Hi Mike,

Not in your case. bRAS is set to 8128 and Stable Rate is set to 8000.

Would suggest you try running BT Speedtests and see what kind of results you get.

Thanks for the reply, James.

I've done the BT speed test to check my line and got the following:

1658kbps
1838kbps
1367kbps
1838kbps
1925kbps
1421kbps

I have also now checked using the test at http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301 and get the following:
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1868 kbps

Is that helpful?

My stable rate quoted on the plusnet site is 8000.
Have just checked http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/ , as suggested by murgleys, and got the following results. All double-dutch to me! Smiley

IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4660 kbps

What's it all going to mean?

Hi there,

That's right, I uplifted the restrictions at our end, and because BT haven't set their, I imagine it will result in your being throttled at your current levels.

IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps

The IP Profile is the maximum speed you could get with the BT restriction that you are currently on.

DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)

These are the speeds at which you are gaining synchronisation with the exchange.

Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4660 kbps

This is the actual result of your speed test.

Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

Hi James,
My max upgrade was meant to be done 18th sept nothing has happened yet, I have rebooted my router numerous times but still syncs at 2272. Is there a problem or is it just a case of waiting for BT.
Thanks
Darren

PS just ran the broadband fault checking tool and i am presented with a blank page after confirming my telephone number and during the initial checks LOL!
if it helps this is the address at the top of the page
http://faults.plus.net/applications.php?Module=Faults&Page=InitialChecksAgent
and seems to get stuck there 10mins now.

Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

Hi, James,

So since my IP profile is 2000, I can't get any more than that!

So next question is - why is my profile 2000, and what can be done about it?

Cheers

Maxed last week - what stable speed can I expect to get ?

James,

BT have obviously altered my BRAS profile. I now get this .

URL=http://www.speedtest.net][/URL]

Seems to now be in line with my max stable rate you set to 8000kbs, However , I still dont expect this is operating at full capacity.

I know the line speed will change constantly until a stable rate is agreed between PN & BT.

Will do more checks at different time of the day to get a better idea of the speeds i'm recieving

I'm sure it will increase in due course.
