Looking at those line stats. I'd say you could most probably acheive a stable 8Mb line without any issues.

So, personally, I'd give it a go! :-)

As Liam has mentioned, your line margins are fairly decent. Whilst I won't commit to 8mbps, because I think you might fall marginally short of those levels of synchronisation, it would definitely be worth the upgrade.

Feel free to give me a poke and I'll manually upgrade the connection for you.

Consider the downside of max also - latency. This may not affect you if you're not a gamer. Interleaving present on MaxDSL lines causes large latency hikes, whereas this is unnoticable when surfing/email/downloading it is noticible with anything such as gaming mentioned above.

I issue this warning from experience, I used to have a stable 2MB connection with PlusNet and opted for MaxDSL. When I enquired to downgrade again, there was a £14.99 regrade fee (fair enough) BUT they could only offer 512K!

I'm not being negative, just balancing the +Max posts Wink

Interleaving can be switched off on a Max line, although if it's a long line that could end up causing more problems. The general trade off on Max is of higher sync speed and lower latency against stability.

The attenuation is a bit tight but I reckon the noise margin figures are so good there shouldn't be any problems getting the full 8128 Kbps

They were going to charge you for a regrade back to a fixed 2meg service?
Thats wrong...they regraded me for free.

If you want better all round speed, it's also worth considering moving to an ISP that won't shape your traffic. What do you use your connection for?

Hi,

The portal speedtest has been a bit unreliable of late so I'd probably take the results with a pinch of salt. We are planning on replacing it very soon.

I would suggest trying www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk and see what results that gives.
