Many websites "Not available" today

I don't know if it's related to the known problems, but all day I've been getting frequent websites "Not available" and having to retry a number of times. From the bbc to the plusnet user tools one that tells me which gateway I'm on, I've had it on most at some time in the day - I can't see a pattern in it.

Speedtest just (4.30pm) gave 4.6Mb so that's OK.

I'm on "Telehouse North, Juniper 5" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as thn-ag1.

Hi,

I've not noticed any other problems today. Could be a couple of reasons, DNS being one. Which DNS servers do you have set? And is that on your PC or router?

Same gateway same problems if that helps.

Dave
The router sorts all that out. I just leave it to select what it likes.

It says

Gateway IP Address 195.166.128.72
Domain Name Server 212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10

if that tells you anything.

Might be worth setting the DNS servers in the PC's network settings rather than letting the router do DNS. I've seen this before on occassions with routers.

I'd like to add a "Me too" to this fault.

For example, it took 3 attemps to load in the Plusnet homepage, and whilst browsing some usually reliable forums I'm getting fairly frequent DNS errors, usually requiring a refresh or two in order to get the pages to load.

Some info from my router, if it's of any assistance...

System Up Time 00:06:04:59
ADSL Speed (DS/US) 8128/448 Kbps
LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway 195.166.128.80
Primary DNS Server 212.159.6.9
Secondary DNS Server 212.159.6.10

WAN IP Address 87.114.29.165

I was having a few sync issues also earlier today, around middday, but having spotted 2 BT vans outside the exchange, and seeing that this has resolved itself since the BT vans have gone away, I assume this was purely a local exchange issue.

Cheers!

Thank you.

You could try 212.159.13.49 and 212.159.13.50
Thats what I have mine set for and they seem to work no problem.

The four DNS servers are

212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50
212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10

With XP, 2K and OS X you can set all four, see if that makes a difference. I'm having a look to see if there are any problems that I can see, saw 1 lookup lag a bit on 6.10, but seems OK for me.

I'll alert CSC too to see if they are seeing any reports.

Add me to the list - I too have been getting websites not available, I have also lost connections at least 5 times in the last 2 hours and my sync as been up and down during this period. A bit miffed because I was on a mission in "Quest wars" and the game just froze presumably because of this and I had to log out.

Depends on your OS -

Assuming Win2K or similar you'd need to go to settings, network/dial up connections. Pick the connection that represents the NIC you point at the router right-click/properties.

Go into the Internet(tcp/ip) settings, go to advanced, pick the dns tab and enter the ip's.

there's probably a page around in the help area sometimes that would do a better job of explaining Smiley
