Loss of sync

It may be a simple question but what is loss of sync ?

Everytime I get a disconnection which last for sometimes minutes but normally days, it is down to loss of sync.

This is the reason given by the phone customer support.

Loss of sync

Hi,

Sync is short for synchronisation. What this is the ADSL part of the connection between you and the local exchange. There are several "layers" of connection the sync being the part that connects your equipment with the exchange, then when you enter the username and password you make the connection to us. If you can't sync with the exchange then you won't be able to get any further than that (i.e. authenticate with us).

A loss of sync is usually indicated by the ADSL light on the modem/router flashing.

Loss of sync

I get loss of sync or my sync speed goes down but no disconnects,as soon as my sync goes down so does my download speed but if my sync goes up my speed doesn't change. Evil
