Plusnet - you denied there was a problem with dropped connections for a couple of days - there was.

Please believe us this time - there IS a problem.

Agreed. The latency and other issues of the last few days need thorough investigation and the issues resolved. Too much is happening and being reported across the userbase for it to be ignored.

Which is why this was raised through to networks for investigation, I'm fairly sure that I mentioned doing this on Friday evening when this was done.

This is being looked at by networks, though at the moment there is no further information that I have available to share with you.

Jon, So why does the latest service status posting about this issue say
Quote
Latency Issues - RESOLVED
As per the last update we have identified and resolved an issue that was causing packets to be dropped. Customers should once more be experiencing normal ping times, and anyone still having issues should raise a ticket via contact us.

:?: :?: :?: :?:

Please publicly acknowledge the problem by putting out a service status that says that two of the five gateways are at times giving increased latency which may cause problems particularly for gamers and that disconnecting/reconnecting to get a different gateway may improve things.

While you are at it can you why out why @gateway isn't updated to recognise all the gateways - the last I heard was that PUG were waiting for some information or something to be done by Plusnet.

Edit: It looks like this may have been done:

You are currently connected to the "Telehouse North, Juniper 5" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as thn-ag1.

Latency and speed Issues 06/03/06

I had pings of +100ms just getting to portal.plus.net, so I raised a ticket after going through the 'Broadband Fault Checker'.

The ticket was closed by PN stating this could be contention problems at my exchange. Fair enough ... but would rebooting my router an connecting to a different pipe to get lower latency indicate a problem at my exchange? No?

Unfortunatly it appears the script reading support staff need new updated scripts. That include reconnecting to change pipe to avoid the latency/speed hell that the other pipes are seeing Or perhaps more training?

I think we are all missing the point here. First of all why should we have to disconnect and reconnect to hopefully get on another gateway??. If there is a problem with one of +NETs gateways (which there seems to be and more than 1) then they should fix it. If after several attempts to resolve the offending gateway (which to my knowledge is the case) has failed then they should replace the equipment. It should not be down to the user to keep on rebooting equipment in hope that they get on a better gateway, and at least +net should have standby equipment to put in place so that the offending piece can be taken offline to find out where the fault lies and fix it permanently.

The network guys have made a few changed on pte-ag1 and pte-ag2 which should improve things. We'll need to monitor for a while to see what happens when it gets busier.
