Well, we know PN don't care about taking £21.99 from us each month and providing an absolutely appalling service both in actually internet service and customer support, so I would say we need to put up with it or leave. It's a shame really as PN have a lot of unique features, but those are no good if the main product itself is worthless!

Hi there,

There is no reason for you to be experiencing anything less than the speeds your product is capable of. That's assuming you are not being managed and there is also the exception of the current P2P issue we are looking at.

We may be able to increase your speeds by lowering your target SNR.

Raise a fault if you feel your speeds are lacklustre and we will look into things for you.

I agree and I have enough of this!
I am paying a lot of money every month for what has become a very poor service.
In the last year I have had to suffer the introduction of bandwidth throttling, the loss of newsgroup binaries, unexplained network slowdowns, unexplained dropouts.
I can get all this elsewhere for a lot less money!!!

When? After we have all already got fedup and moved to another ISP because it's still taking 14 days to answer a ticket, if we get a reply at all? Evil

Hi,

Could you remind me how to do a speed check please. Your stats certainly tie up with the level of service I've been getting today (Sunday). Generally OK to good this morning, and almost non-existent this afternoon. Yesterday we couldn't get anything all day.

I need to keep a similar speedcheck log myself so I can report to PlusNet. However, I'm going to put it in a letter, as I think (a) PlusNet are becoming immune to the flood of complaints through the Helpdesk, and (b) ironically an old-fashioned piece-of-paper-in-the-hand sometimes works better. We'll see anyway ...

We've had three pretty good years with PlusNet, and now this.

It is possible that PN can help you with your line speed stability.

Since I was LLU'd I was receiving similar results to yourself and my gaming pings were terrible. I raised a fault with PN and, eventually a week or two later, they ran some tests on my line and based on that changed the profiling. I lost about 0.5mbs of my possible line speed (an unavoidable result I was told) but my stability improved and I now get around a 2mbps speed test and my pings are usually good.

It's still not what I would call a perfect service (I was getting up to 4mbps when my line was having a good day on LLU) but I'm a little happier with what I have now. Personally I still think that a lot of the problems are due to Tiscali LLU hardware and will stick around for the next few months to see if anything improves on the LLU front.

So it's worth giving PN a chance to see if they can do anything for you. Raise that fault and chase it until you get a reponse. At the moment it might be less cost and hassle than changing ISP....

re bob pullen's comment i have a ticket raised re "lacklustre" speeds but it's slow going innit ? Albeit in relation to Max
some the replies do not address my questions
others tell me what i already know
it appears that when i update my question further info i give is disregarded
I guess this is what others experience
I hate having to spend my time in this forum but more gets addressed here than through the tickets system it would seem

Hi,

Under "My Account" click on "Connection Settings" you should then see an icon for "Bandwidth speed test". After you run it you will see a history of your past tests.

There are various other sites where you can do speed tests
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest.php is a good one as you can see the speeds other poeple are getting, either generally or for plusnet in particular.
