Basically, I'd like plusnet to install a version of the revision control tool subversion (svn) on the cgi server. I'd like this so I could put a (small, low traffic) codebase there, as that is where my domain is parked.

Would this be possible to implement?

[Idea 3060]Installing Subversion (svn) server on cgi server?

Hi,

Unfortunately this has been rejected as it doesn't fit in with the CGI platform being a value added service.

I don't suppose that I can bump this topic and raise the question again?

SVN is now used just as much as CVS (which is installed on the ccgi server).

Go on, it would only take you an hour tops to put SVN on the ccgi box(es).

As a Christmas present for us all?

Please :-p

This was asking about the server, I assume you mean the client?

If it's the client then I can see the point - it can be handy to grab files directly to a server. In the absence of that the Windows client install is very easy if a little less convenient.

In the case of the server, it's an Apache plug-in, and thus there would be not unreasonable stability concerns.

Sorry, yes. I didn't read the post fully. It's just the SVN client I'm interested in. I run my own SVN server.

Changes to the ccgi servers are very rare so the chances of this happening are remote to say the least as it appears not many people have responded to this request.

Try raising the issue within the PUG forum and see if you get anyone else who wants it. If it appears to be needed by enough people we can add it as a pugit item for consideration by PN and allow people to vote. That is all we can do at the moment.

Can you blame them really? We know the CGI servers are flakey and PlusNet have lost web source before, as well as emails and can't keep DNS up to date.

And yet you want to use them for source control?

I have a bridge I want to sell you.

Ha! Apologies again if I haven't made myself clear. I want the SVN client on the ccgi servers so that I can check out code to the servers rather than running a svn server or anything as ambitious as that.

Anyway... I take the hint. It's not going to happen. It was a nice Christmas wish!
