You will never see a speedtest that is as high as your so called stable rate. This is due to "overheads" in the process of sending the packets and checking that they have been received correctly. This "handshaking" is extra data on top of that being received by you so it knocks a bit of the speed you see.

thx john i fully understand that
there is a seperate IP figure on the new speedtest.
my actual data speed is acceptable it's getting a grasp of the terminology and whether there are discrepancies.

My IP profile figure on the BT site is 6000 but on PN my stable rate is 4500.

Perhaps because its a beta test it not entirely reliable?

Now my download speed - well thats another matter.......!!!

There is a delay, nobody knows exactly how long but probably 24hours is typical for a message to be sent from BT and processed by PN to update the stable rate.

Though it is not unknown for this process to breakdown, the information from this new tester allows you to know if this has happened.

IP profile - new bt speedtest

Hi,

I'd suspect it's just down to data not updating in real time in each place. I don't know how often the new BT Speedtest updates, but the portal figure can be around 12 hours behind when it's generated by BT (which in turn can be a few hours behind when the profile is changed) as the data is usually processed about twice per day.

I'm also not sure if the details will match because my stable_rate on the portal is 8000 but the IP profile should be 7150kbps. I've not got the new BT Speedtest to work yet, always says too busy.

For a connection at 8128 the new tester gives an ip profile of 7150.

Yep consistent with the table on the PN portal here.
