IP address in the RIN trial

I have just switched over to the RIN trial and have noticed an increase in speed from 5Mb to 6Mb this evening.

Now that I am on a dynamic IP address I will need to know what the current address is to be able to connect to my router remotely. Is there any way through the portal to find out what my current IP address is? I can do it easily enough from home, but what about remotely?

IP address in the RIN trial

Hi,

Unfortunately the portal won't show you the current IP address on RIN (maybe something for the future). There are tools that you can use like DynDNS (www.dyndns.org) which will give you a static forward DNS record that will always point at your dynamic IP. Some routers like the Netgear DG834's have built in support for these services.

IP address in the RIN trial

Thanks very much. It has taken me a couple of days to get round to setting this up, but http://www.dyndns.org in conjunction with the client in my DrayTek 2800VG now means that I can access the router remotely whatever the IP address. Perfect.
