I've been Maxed - speeds all over the shop!

Hi

I was maxed 3 weeks ago and I'm slightly confused about what I should have expected my speeds to settle down to. I did all the router resetting stuff for the first fortnight and have actually carried on doing it for the third week too. I've seen the speeds vary from anything between 350 to about 6000 and it continues to vary. The router has consistently held it's connection at the full 8128/448 without any dropouts at all and your stable rate page reports an 8meg connection. Here are the recent speed test results;

I live in a small village and am only about 200 yards from the exchange. Does anything need tweaked to maintain the speed nearer the 6 meg mark?

Thanks

Well if you changed supplier so you have a leased line, which will cost you much more than you are paying PN this will get you good speeds at all times of day/night.

Also, you are using the PN speed test that relies on the connection between PN sites in Shefield and London that will be congested. Try www.speedtester.bbmax.co.uk for comparison.

I would not complain about the speeds you obtain.

Thanks Sw.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not unhappy with the results, just unsure what to expect over the coming weeks / months. Will the speeds continue to vary?

BTW - I can't get www.speedtester.bbmax.co.uk to work. Is this the correct URL?

Cheers

Hi

I've made a few changes to your account, which may help.

You will need to disconnect for a good few minutes, then see if the speed increases.

Thanks Mand. I'll check when I get home. I often do stuff remotely from here at work using www.logmein.com , but that would scupper me!

Once I reconnect, should I never really need to reboot the router for the speed to change?

Hi Mand

Switched off router for half an hour. Speed checker still coming in somewhere between 3500 and 4000. I guess I'll just keep an eye on things?

Thanks
