Glossary of TLAs used in service status announcements

The f9 website appears to have no glossary worth mentioning. The umpteen different three-letter acronyms used on the service status pages are meaningless to me, so I have no idea whether they affect my internet connection, my email, neither, or both. Just what services are affected is sometimes, but by no means always, spelt out for idiots in the accompanying text.

Please could we have a glossary? Or if it already exists where is it?

The feeling of the world at large is best expressed by referring to the well-known PCMCIA card......

People Can't Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms

I think it is only recently this has been happening, perhaps a change in staff?

I for one appreciate the detailed announcements but even I have to Google the odd term every now and again.

Hi there.

This sounds like a reasonable and sensible request.

I'll raise this via the userGroup and see if something can be sorted.

Thanks for the idea.

Just an update - the UserGroup has now started "the PUG Glossary" at http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,2990.0.html .

Might not include everything as yet, but there's a thread for possible additions at http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,3044.msg36889.html#msg36889 .

Help from other F9/PN/MN/FO customers in compiling this wd be appreciated Smiley
[both those threads should be accessible to customers from all the PN vISPs].

Penny.

Just as an update to this, there's now a parallel thread relating to "PlusNet Past" (a great deal of which is about the early days of Force 9) at http://usergroup.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,3066.0.html .

Anyone who remembers the "good old days" when news servers got lost going round roundabouts, pylons collapsed and Lee waved his big stick Wink - do feel free to add your memories.

This is good. TVM. (I hope you know this TLA). How about a link to it on the Service Status Page?

My brain is too full to remember anything for very long. This morning's was "DNS" all over the service status, & I'd forgotten it. "Dialup Network Service" - unlikely. "Did Not Start"(as in cycle & other racing) - quite likely round here!

Thanks again

A link would be good Smiley but that would be down to F9/PN to actually organise.

Have to say a fair amount of work went into putting the Glossary together - not much point in having it though if PN don't link to it from their technical-jargon-type pages and emailed output to customers across all the vISPs.
