I helped a friend sign up with Plusnet Broadband Plus on the 14th July (his first time using broadband), he choose the usb modem and a yearly contract, as yet he's still not connected nor recieved his hardware but has just had an invoice for £20.98. I thought he had to just pay the p&p of £5.99 and the setup was free ? Thanks for any help.

Hi

The bill for £20.98 is for the first months broadband at £14.99 plus the modem P&P £5.99

Although he has been charged the first months rental it will not take effect until he is connected and up and running, his second payment will be due one month after his connection date

Thanks cajef for clearing that up..

How long does the whole process usually take to get up and running ?

If he has paid the £20.99 by credit or debit card usually 7 to 10 days

If he is paying the first payment by direct debit then there will be a delay until the direct debit is set up

I ordered on a Saturday and was connected by the following Friday, six days including delivery of modem.

There is an order tracker in the connection settings section, if he checks there he should see the stage his order is at

Thanks, he chose direct debit, that must be why it's taking longer.

The best way to do it is pay the first payment by card which speeds the process up and set up a direct debit for your subsiquent payments

If you choose to pay the initial fee by Direct Debit, then Plusnet will submit this to the bank and await their confirmation before placing the order with BT. This process has taken up to 14 days in the past. Once they get confirmation, then they will place the order with BT and you're looking at roughly a week. Official time is "7-10 days".

When did you place the order? If your friend has already had the money taken, then the order will have gone through.

Incidentally, if he got the email saying they were shortly going to take £20.98 from his account, this also means that his DD was successful and an order will now be placed.

Hi martinfamily, the order was placed on the 14th July. Hopefully he won't have too much longer to wait.

Check your tickets. That DD should be active now, and an order placed with BT. Has he received his hardware?

Hi,
The order status is saying "Your order is being submitted to BT for ADSL activation"

No he hasn't recieved his modem yet.
