The forum software, phpbb, does not support this. There may be a mod or an extention that supports this, but PN would not install it.

I don't know of any other forums which employ spell checkers, are there some out there?

There are indeed some.

However, I prefer things like iespell for Internet explorer, or Spellbound for Firefox.

Yet another thing I didn't know I needed because it never occurred to be that it existed - I've just added spellbound to my firefox extensions.

Seems there is a plug in www.apestyler.co.uk use it in their PHPBB2 Forum.
Would be interesting to see whether PN could easily implement it.
Although since its optional, how many of us would actually press the button?

PlusNet will generally not install any modules / Plugins / upgrades for the forum so it is very unlikely that they will not take that particular one in.

Why don't they install updates do they give a reason or simply "sorry we don't do that"

When I install mods onto my forums I usually mess the whole thing up and have to use a back-up SQL dump and files to get back where I was, and then start again.

It's down to the old saying "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

OK, it's not so much a fix, but its a risk factor. That and that it may be required to heavily alter mods, just to let them function within the portal environment.

Indeed, on pnjokes The only problem is the spell checkers tendancy to use US english. I also have many other mod's installed no problem using "easymod" which I got from the phpbb site and was the only mod in it's category.
