FTP question

I posted this on the ADSL forum but this one seems more busy so I'll try here too Smiley

I got the D-Link ADSL router 504 or something i think it is, anyway we have a 4 PC LAN running from it all sharing the net connection, no problems. BUT I want to run an ftp server for a mate of mine in Holland off my PC (the first PC on the LAN) but only have the IP of our whole network and if he tries that cannot connect to my ftp server which I have running, from inside the network my house mates can connect to it fine, the question is how do I configure it so that people external to our network can ftp in and connect direct to me?

Also a slightly related problem, the net and everything works great but I can't connect to our router/modem?? I use IE to goto http://192.168.0.1 but I get a 'server cannot be found' error message?? Whats up with that, the thing itself is working fine but I just can't connect to it?

Cheers in advance Smiley

You need to redirect ports 20/21 to the IP of the computer hosting the FTP server. Instructions on how to do this for the 504 should be in the user manual.

Dumb question but I have to ask - have you confirmed that the router is actually using that IP?

If so, then is it possible that the web configuration has somehow been disabled? Can you PING the router on that IP successfully?

RE: FTP question

Cheers guys but it's ok I sorted it out myself about 2 minutes later Smiley the router just needed a hard reset as it is want to do on occasions, no idea why! Once I was in it was a simple case of redirecting incomming TCP connections on port 21 as you say. Cheers anyway!
