Hi All,

Hope someone can help me. I can't get email or ftp, but can use my browser, I'm using Netgear DG814, it seems to be running fine, have rebooted it etc, but still not getting email or ftp. Any ideas, please?

Hi there,

Are you using a software firewall and have you made any changes to your system (updates etc) since these applications last worked?

Are either application generating any error messages?

Hi Mark,

No changes at all, received my first lot of emails this morning, tired to respond and getting failed on everything. Yes, I am using a software firewall as well as the router and I've not had any problems until this morning. Also tried to connect to my website via ftp and it's saying it can't be resolved.

I've changed connections, taken things off my computer, even changed the microfilter and still not getting what I need. If it was a router problem, I wouldn't be able to get online. This is totally random.

Hi,

What email client are you using? When you try to send email, does it give an error, with text and a number?

If so, could you copy the error message here?

What firewall and antivirus are you using?

That looks like a firewall problem, do you have any firewall software?

Hi Cass,

As Ben has said, it looks like a firewall issue.

Can you tell us which firewall and antivirus software you are using?

I've noticed exactly this problem over the last day or so (Outlook express) and yes I am using Norton Internet security 2005

I guess an update has broken something. If I disable Norton everything is fine Evil

I believe if you do a manual update this fixes it.
Certainly if you look on the Symantec site you should find something about it as it was a recent glitch.

open up norton internet security
personal firewall
configure
network

add the relay.plus.net and mail.plus.net to the trusted sites zone

make sure your email program is closed first

this will resolve this issue

do they same if it affects any other mail servers too
