FTP Connection issues...

Ever since I've been on plus net (not that long) I've not been able to connect to my web server using FTP... I've checked with my server providor and their saying everything is fine on their end.

Any idea whats up or how i can fix it? I'm using the Voyager 205 Router and am on a Premium account.

FTP Connection issues...

Hi,

Whereabouts is the FTP connection failing (e.g. rejecting username and password or downloads/uploads failing). As a test try ftp'ing to your PlusNet webspace (ftp.plus.net) and see if that works or not.

There could be several reasons for it not working, hopefully we can try and pinpoint which it is.

Finding Host www.mydomain.co.uk ...
Connecting to *IP was here*
Connected to *IP was here* in 9.140625 seconds, Waiting for Server Response
Error reading response from server.
Connection closed by remote host.
Host type (1): Automatic detect

Thats the error i get... I'll try connecting to the plus net space in just a few moments.

I've tried it from here but it was quite slow bringing up the login box.

Can try it via command line?

I get the reply saying
'connected to www.mydomain.co.uk
Disconnected by remote host'

Sounds like the remote ftp server is borked or you have a firewall blocking the data port. Only other thing I can think of is your IP being blocked by your web space provider, doubt that though.

(FTP service uses 20 & 21 TCP by default.)

Edit: Try using smartftp and noting the error code and description in the log screen, may help.

When using Smart FTP, the log gives me this...

[00:55:18] SmartFTP v2.0.993.25
[00:55:18] Resolving host name "www.mydomain.co.uk"
[00:55:18] Connecting to ***.***.***.*** Port: 21
[00:55:18] Connected to www.mydomain.co.uk.
[00:55:58] Timeout (40s).
[00:55:58] Active Help: http://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/index.php/58
[00:55:58] Client closed the connection.

I might add that I have been able to connect to the FTP server since having using plus net, but it disconnected me moments later.

What webspace does your domain point to?

If www, try ftp2.plus.net and see if you can connect to your normal webspace.

If ccgi, are you trying to connect from a PlusNet IP? If not, you won't be able to connect to the ccgi server as it only allows connects from PN IPs for security reasons.

Try this temp account I've setup.

Host: zelos.org.uk
username: ftp35857191-1
password: plusnet

You should get something like below, If you do then I would suggest its a badly behaving ftp server. If you get the same error as before then a firewall rule would be most likely answer.

That test server you set up connected right away (in a matter of seconds).
